Should i give 2142 another shot???
Hi all,
When 2142 came out I went and purchased it eagerly. After about 2 weeks I gave up. Not long after that I discovered PR and haven’t looked back.
Is it just my imiganation or is it a pretty lame game. Just wanted to get some opinions before I go to the trouble of reinstalling it.
I have the feeling that after PR nothing will ever come close. I wonder if Battlefield 3 will change this?

BF2142 would be awesome if it wasn't for the people playing it.
Pretty much 99% of players are senseless idiots who think they're playing Quake III Arena on a larger scale. They don't understand strategy, they have a one-track mind and they can't conceive that someone could possibly sneak up on them.
Do like me: play exclusive lone wolf. Make a one-man locked squad and invite your buddylist guys if they happen to join you in. My password is a shot on the ground in front of me and a backup request.GOD IS DEAD. THE N00BS TEAMKILLED HIM.

Re: Should i give 2142 another shot???
I am not sure if you are aware of this, but TG has a very popular 2142 server that is nothing like how you are describing the game in your generalization above. Like any TG game, we take 2142 to another level completely. We rise above the tactical cesspool that is the average public server and uphold the TacticalGamer approach to gaming. What you are describing above is the exception to the above rule on our server. 2142 is every bit as tactical and teamwork focused as PR if you play it right. Here at TG, we play it right. It is faster paced like vanilla bf2 or POE due to the more forgiving damage model, revive abilities and map design relative to PR.
I want to make sure I am not coming across as starting a PR vs 2142 which is better kind of thread. I am however saying that your characterization of 2142 above is nothing like how it is played at TG.

The 2142 server is how i found TG and why i stayed in the beginning. It's just awesome as all our other servers!

TG server is great. While shurikane may be talking about the majority of other servers, at TG we play the TG way. Good teamwork and communication.

TG 2142 rox! Find our server and give it a go. Make sure to get in on a TG squad. And completely ignore Shurikane's 'advice'.

Re: Should i give 2142 another shot???
At first I wondered what game Shurikane was referencing. The game he describes is nothing like the game I play on TG servers 5 days a week. I've played PR, but not in a while and enjoyed the gameplay, but definitely a different game than 2142. Some similarities, lots of strategy, tight squad play, but at a very fast pace. Please don't play in a lone wolf one man squad, you may be considered to be in the 99% refered to earlier. My guess is that 2142 is what has brought many outstanding individuals to TG in the first place.

Funny, I thought PR was hideous trash. My experience with the game was crawling prone for about 40 minutes, firing 3 bullets, and then dying while my squad leader just whined.

I had an Xbox-sized post in reply but I deleted it in favor of a short and sweet apology: I forgot to put water in my wine when I described the game.

Re: Should i give 2142 another shot???
So, to encourage teamwork and decent play you lock yourself away from everyone else, run off to do your own thing, and generally go against everything we like to see on our 2142 server?
2142 is a lot faster and requires a very different mindset from PR. So, you might very well like it, depending on what draws you to PR, or you might not. However, there's only one way to find out.

Re: Should i give 2142 another shot???
I don't know, BF2142 kinda disappointed me. What got me was the weapons on tanks and walkers but the sniper rifle shoots a conventional bullet?? What is with that? You would think that about 150 years in the future and they have all these nifty weapons they would have abetter sniper rifle as well. I do not think they really planned ahead on BF2142 taking a look at some of the weapons they offered. To many people said it was to futuristic but not really when they are using conventional bullets in sniper rifles and a few of the other weapons. The hover tanks and Titans may have been the most futuristic vehicles in the game. Some of the weapons they have in BF2142 are weapons that actually being tested now.
Gameplay was not much different than regualar BF2. Hardly anybody ever showed any actual team work or squad playing. They did pick the weapons they wanted without asking what would be best used and then once in the game they did the Lone Ranger without Tonto or Rambo style of playing.
