90% of elementary school kids, when asked, immediately responded with the same answer... what did they say and why?

to the right, because that is the side they always see.

Re: Which way is the bus driving?

When children are entering or leaving the bus, the side they enter on has the entrance on the passenger side. Therefore that is the side they see most often and more importantly, it will be the most vivid mental representation of the object since the function of the bus will be tied with that image. When looked at from that angle, the children see the bus moving from left to right in the above picture because that is how it looks when it picks them up or drops them off.

Or, perhaps moving from left to right because we read from left to right so most movement representation that children that age are exposed to all so follow the enter left exit to the right principle.

But this bus has no door, which means you're looking at the driver's side, so it should be moving right to left.

The kids said left. Why? Because you can't see the door to get on!

Where does the driver sit? Anyway, the buses in England have the doors on the left, so it's driving to the right

ah, nice. I forgot kids that age are sort of stuck in a concrete representational phase. They do not see the pic as a symbol for all busses as an adult would. They see it as a particular bus - one without a door.

Poor form, 3.2 for presentation and a 3.4 overall. The French judge gave you a 5.9 though. ^_^

A very leaky canoe, or one with lots of advertising. NASCANOE, maybe?
