[Gun Porn] Chevy Nick's M2 .50 Caliber machine gun range

I often regret I don't take more pictures of interesting training events I conduct, but here is one that TG might enjoy. I did this M2 range about a year ago at McGregor Range, NM which is the range complex we use for Fort Bliss, TX. Here's a tip; need a crew serve weapon in a firefight? Go for the M240 (7.62mm machine gun that replaced m60), the most M2's are old and unreliable. We had incredible misfire issues with all of our weapons on this day.

Enjoy:

There's no gun on gun sex here. False advertising.

Thanks for sharing your pics! I always loved training! (except when it's in MOP gear)

M2 unreliable? Wha? It's one of the oldest weapons the US Armed Forces still rely on in combat, and for good reason! Did you check the headspace and timing before you shot?

I'd believe that they were unreliable. You gotta remember, many of these weapons are old, worn, and not maintained to the highest of standards. I had to carry a Beretta M-9, being flight crew, and whenever we trained, they were the biggest pieces of junk. Come to find out the springs in the clips were all worn. Thousands of 'em. Since I was armory manager for the squadron there towards the end of my enlistment, guess who got to swap 'em all out and inspect all weapons. Yup, me. I had no faith in those guns at all. Thankfully, I never needed to use one in a real-world scenario.

Exactly, I don't know the age of M2's they're using in Iraq/Afghanistan, but the ones in my unit were manufactured decades ago, they are very old and very worn.

That's definitely not a minor consideration. I've seen a guy blow his feed tray cover 10 feet in the air, and another guy lost a nut when his blew up. Both incidents were within 10 minutes of each other.
