nuclear power plants in the subs/ships. And yes, I am trying to think of that too.

Maybe a gun/sword with an engraving?

a quick edit: does anyone know about a USN officer's sword like this one

Scale ship models might be nice.

Does Logitech or CH make a ship's wheel and telegraph input device? :P

If he'll spend much time on subs, perhaps something that can provide entertainment in cramped space. Like an ultra-compact PVR with a lot of storage.

This would be a fantastic graduation gift. When giving a gift, I try to think of things that I know the recipient wants, but that she would never actually get around to buying for herself. A sword is just the thing. Make sure you look up the regs for the sword. I know the Marine NCO sword has an area that can be engraved with a name, perhaps the Naval officer's sword does, too?
