As far as I'm concerned, the tie-in between Kane and Red Alert is about as substantial and meaningful as the tie-in between Portal and Half-Life 2. They really have absolutely zero bearing on one-another.

Except that RA led to the void of power that allowed Nod to become a major organization.
Think of it as a series circuit vs. a parallel circuit
