Agreed Turk. and Twig... you DIDNT say quads either... ATV is a somewhat common term you know, which darksteel did a nice job of informing you :P

Re: What Kind of Atv do you own?

Ahh, now see, the desert around Vegas is more of a setting I would expect to see 4 wheelers in action. I really enjoy the vids online of them and the buggys jumping the dunes. I would probably have to give that a try if I make it out west again, lol.

Lockers, integrated rock rails, bumpers, and a 3 color NATO camouflage paint job are planned.

Man, now that's just plain cool. You should post some pics when the paintjob's done.

As to ATV's, they used them a load in the farmland in western Europe, but I actually haven't seen hardly any in the states. Owned some piece of crap yellow one there, I'd just embarrass myself if I posted a pic here.

Re: What Kind of Atv do you own?

Use to be my play toy but I sold it for a more family oriented vehicle. Still kicking myself in the rear for that one.
1986 Chevy 3/4 ton light duty 4x4.
It had a stock 350 4 bolt main, 4 barrel Rochester Quadra-jet carb, 4 speed tranny, 3.23 gears, and 35" mud tires. Also no bondo or fiberglass at all, all metal. When I got rid of it I still had some plans to do but never got them done of course. The truck never had gotten stuck in mud and I had it up to the headlights and just starting into the carb. Would fly down the road and spin the tires off with no problems. Can't remember if they were Mud Kings or Buckshots in that picture cause I put tires on about every 3-4 months from spinning so much. I love to do that. With the high gearing it was no rock crawler, it was made for mudding and driving fast. I was told it would do about 135 MPH down the road, i raced an Eclispe and that is what the other guy told me we were doing, so gotta go by hearsay on that one. I also got 22 MPg on the back roads and 28 MPG on the interstate. how many 3/4 ton 4x4 you know get that mileage??
I have tried numerous times to get in contact with the person I sold it to so i could try to buy it back, I did finally and they had said "No, you must be crazy".
Wife and I are talking about building another one from the ground up again. It most likely will never happen though and never be the same.

I never had an actual ATv though. I always got to carried away and almost killed myself a time or two on a friends ATV. I did however have a Kawasaki KX250 when I was younger, I loved that thing as well.

Re: What Kind of Atv do you own?

Oh, well if we are posting pics of show trucks, here was mine:

I rolled it about a year after this was taken and took a $38k loss. It hurt, a lot.

I've got a 1995 Jeep Wrangler YJ, it's pretty much an ATV

My dad owns a Polaris Sportsman, haven't driven it in a while but man is that thing a blast!

Re: What Kind of Atv do you own?

My roommate drives Datsun 510s and has taken them where 4-wheelers fear to go, like fording a creek with water almost up to the window line.

The horsepower sucks, but they can climb a 90 degree grade and the fuel efficiency is great.

PS - You know you're in Alaska when you pass a lifted Jeep with custom rollcage, deep water fording kit, lifted, wide wheel base, two spare tires, 50 litres of petrol in jerrycans in the back, and painted with about two inches of caked mud.

You know you love Alaska when the beautiful woman behind the wheel explains that she did most of the work on it herself.

Re: What Kind of Atv do you own?

I will one day visit Alaska, it's a dream of mine.

I also wear Magnum boots and have for a while. I've had many pairs of Magnum Stealth's with the steel toe for work, Airsoft, and just to wear everyday. With a pair of gel insoles they are comfortable like a shoe, but rugged like a heavy boot.

I've had four or five pairs of Magnums (every year or so someone says, "Oh, no, they're WAY better than they used to be...." And the athletic shoe design appeals to me...), and they've always worn out in just a few months of wear... They're not rugged at all.
