Re: How Smart Are You?

Fact. One of the reported occurances of triorchidism was reported in the Cook Islands*, which is, of course, considered part of Polynesia. Polyorchids do suffer an increased risk of testicular cancer, which can be fatal. Thus, the rare and deadly polyorchid does indeed grow in Polynesia.

Crap. Eddie Bauer may have been a mountain man, but he sold things from his first store in Seattle, WA.

Re: How Smart Are You?

Crap.

While during the 1980's, Bruce Springsteen released an unprecedented number of #1 chart topping albums, he never had a #1 hit during this decade of his career.

Fact or Crap

"The 600-mile El Camino Real, stretching from San Diego in southern California to Sonoma in the north, is the oldest U.S. highway still in use."

Re: How Smart Are You?

Crap. The U.S. Highway System was introduced to re-designate existing roads and to standardise travel. Thus, all of the original roads designated as U.S. Highways are equally old. Furthermore, the Real is not a U.S. Highway -- it is paved-over by numerous other roads, most of them State roads.

Re: How Smart Are You?

If you dont mean U.S. designated highway (a la the infamous U.S. Rt. 66), then yes, the El Camino Real is the oldest designated highway that is still currently in use, although broken into many many smaller roads and diverted from its original course in places. It was established in 1836 as a connecting route between the spanish missions along the trail in california and baja california.

If you are referring to actual U.S. Highways, then magna is right to a certain point. The oldest actual U.S. Highway is the Lincoln Highway, which was nicknamed the "Mother Road" and travelled through 12 states on it's designation in 1914, but has since been broken into smaller local roads. Signs along all of the newer designated roads still bear the name "Lincoln Highway" as well as various placards and monuments to the road's success as a major thoroughfare.

Re: How Smart Are You?

And speaking of El Camino Real, I can't hear that name without thinking of this entry from the Jargon File:

http://www.catb.org/jargon/html/E/El-Camino-Bignum.html

(A Bignum is a type in Lisp referring to a number of arbitrary precision.)

Re: How Smart Are You?

Well, I don't know how to score this one. The answer I was looking for was CRAP, but due to the fact that it is actually another road named El Camino Real, that runs from Mexico City, Mexico, up to Santa Fe, New Mexico, and partly follows the Rio Grande. Was started by Native Americans and used by Spanish settlers and up till present time.

But both MagnaCentipede and Ferris Bueller make convincing arguments, and I think the question should have been worded differently. Will go with a +1 at the moment for both of them.

MagnaCentipede +14

Ferris Bueller +10

War.mongeR1 +5
DdogG +5

Ristin +4
CingularDuality +4

dave m +3

Acreo Aeneas +2
ScratchMonkey +2
ThaDoctah +2

thegreatnardini +1
Loraxe +1
Icehawk217 +1
Slurm_Cola +1
Delta*RandyShugart* +1

This might be a tricky one for some:

There are four words with “age” in them fit the definitions shown below. Also each of the words is at the very least 6 letters long. What are the 4 words that fit the definations.

a) The safekeeping of goods
b) Wild
c) Slaughter
d) A vehicle
