How Smart Are You?
So, my father in law keeps giving me a new "------" a day calender every year for Christmas, and I never even open the box. Right now I have "Fact or Crap" and the Mensa question of the day.
So now I am regifting them to you all at TG ![]() What I am going to do is post some of the questions here and see who is the 1st to answer them correctly. Not sure how often I will have time to post, but if everyone here gets into it, I will make more time and will post more often, maybe even a few a day (if you all are smart enough). If I can edit this 1st post, I will even keep a running score. Lets see what you got....................... We will start off easy with a true/false. (of course, just like in school, you have to explain your answer, can't just say true or false) #1. Miller Brewing Company was the first to use aluminum cans for beer. Scoreboard![]() Acreo Aeneas +1 MagnaCentipede +2 War.mongeR1 +1 thegreatnardini +1 EDIT: I can't edit this post, so the current score will be found in my latest post!

Re: How Smart Are You?
Sick as I am, this thread piqued my interest...
False. Explanation follows... From what I could dig up on the internet...it was either Coors or the Pittsburgh Brewing Company who were the first to use all-aluminum cans. Re: How Smart Are You?
I'm not much of a fact collector, and tend to rely on research-on-demand (eg. Google, Wikipedia) for such things. Give me a problem to be solved, instead.
I map "smarts" onto a 2-axis grid: On one axis is what you know, from ignorant to wise. On the other axis is how well you learn, from stupid to intelligent. I like to think that I'm ignorant but fairly intelligent. ![]()

"From what I could dig up on the internet"
I didn't hear him asking the internet if someone had ever posted information that answers the question. Cheater. Prepare the molten gold, a throat needs gilding.

Re: How Smart Are You?
Round 1 goes to Acreo Aeneas. Coors introduced the first alum. cans in the US in 1959.
Lets get a little tougher. One you can't look up on the net. #2. Susan likes papaya, coconut and cucumbers. Would you expect Susan to prefer carnations, lilies or tulips? And yes, explain why that is the answer.

Re: How Smart Are You?
I'm going to give you that one, but your reasoning is a tiny bit off.
+1 for MagnaCentipede ANSWER: Lilies (Susan likes things that start with the same pair of letters twice.) Wow, this is going fast. Going to have to make it a bit harder. #3. In each row, change the first letter of the two words to a different letter (the same letter for both) to form two new words. Write the new letter in the blank. These letters will form a word reading down. Fond __ Waffle Mural __ Dote Serial __ Clone Moose __ Formal First one to get the right word wins the point.

Re: How Smart Are You?
Holy crap, you guys are way smarter than I expected. I am going to have to camp this thread to keep you all busy.
+1 for War.mongeR1 This one will get you all for sure. #4 A simple substitution code has been used to conceal a “quote.” Work out the code to decipher the original words. Jack and Jill: XF SFBMMZ TIPVME JOTUBMM SVOOJOH XBUFS Can you break the code?

Re: How Smart Are You?
XF SFBMMZ TIPVME JOTUBMM
SVOOJOH XBUFS = "WE REALLY SHOULD INSTALL RUNNING WATER" A pretty random phrase, but I think I got it right. I just dropped each letter by one, so X became W, F became E, so on and so forth. Did I get it? EDIT: Dang it! I was solving the problem and posted, but Magna beat me to it! Drats! Good job.

Re: How Smart Are You?
Man, this is going super fast. Almost scary.
+1 for MagnaCentipede (and good try War.monger, that was close from the times of your posts.) It was not really a random phrase, it was Jack and Jill talking about not having to run up the hill any more. Ok, got 1 more for you before I jump in some ARMA. #5 1) Change the first letter of a word meaning “not as hot” to get a word that means “more courageous.” 2) Change the first letter of the word for a precious metal to get a word meaning “informed.”

Re: How Smart Are You?
My quick guesses:
1) Change the first letter of a word meaning “not as hot” to get a word that means “more courageous.” Answer: Cool - Fool 2) Change the first letter of the word for a precious metal to get a word meaning “informed.” Answer: Gold - Told
