Re: Gta 4 = Wow!!!!
Yeah, I played SA despite the hip-hop influences. It just reminded me of MTV from the mid '90s anyway. I just kept the radio on Radio X and dressed CJ up in camouflage, lol. I wouldn't expect another hip-hop style GTA game, or at least I can hope they won't. I'll probably just be happy as long as they don't decide to do another '80s abortion.
Anyone heard anything about using planes in GTA4? I have been to the airport just about as soon as I started the game. That's good for 4 stars if you don't already know. I did a nice rampage through the airport in a flatbed, it was decently unstoppable. The jets that were on the tarmac were not playable and I didn't see any helos sitting around. I thought I'd get a birds eye view of the city early on, but as usual it's set up to open things up as you progress the game. I don't imagine planes will be available since the landmass is much smaller than SA. The manual hints that you will be able to make it to the mainland though.

Re: Gta 4 = Wow!!!!
How are the cops? In every GTA, I've always just hated how the police acted. At one star, they might as well have not even been there, at two stars, you could just run away in a piece of crap beater car and they'd never catch you. At three stars and above, their primary tactic was to just slam into you at 100 mph.

Re: Gta 4 = Wow!!!!
Sweet. GTA has always been far, far better on the PC, so I'm waiting as well (that and I think consoles are a cancer that killed gaming long ago).

Re: Gta 4 = Wow!!!!
I dont think theyre putting airplanes into GTA4, they were saying something about why the hell would you be flying around NYC in an airplane? It'd be pointless so they just have helis (might be a dodo or something like cessna, not sure)..
And would you really rather be playing the 80s disco version rather than a 90s hip hop version?

Re: Gta 4 = Wow!!!!
that's what I was thinking about the planes. I do expect at least a Dodo to be hidden somewhere though, just for nostalgia if nothing else, lol. Also, you misunderstood me about the hip-hop thing. While I dislike hip-hop "music", the take SA had was sort of valid and was a pretty good story, if way over the top. No more so than any other GTA title, but as much as I dislike hip-hop, I'd still rather see that than another 80s version. I just really hope they don't do a '70s version. That would really make me ill. A '60s version might be interesting. Maybe GTA: Vietnam? Lol...

Re: Gta 4 = Wow!!!!
Cops have a radius of effect now. You can get out of there radius and avoid trouble and you'll lose "the heat". Much better. Only tested with two stars, not sure about higher than that.
If you have the PS3 version do the Sixaxis tutorial, you get to fly a heilo.

I'm really enjoying this quite a bit, it also has quite a bit more story, and interaction in it as well. Very good stuff.

Re: Gta 4 = Wow!!!!
I liked all the GTAs. I despite rap and hip-hop, but I didn't see that as any reason not to play the game. Only two stations were rap music anyway if that's what annoyed you so much.
The story and the game was great fun. San Andreas, like Vice City, was a great story about 'reality'. Vice City was inspired by the cocaine drug lords of the 80's, inspired by movies like Scarface and Blow. San Andreas focused on the more violent gangland of South Central Los Angeles in the early 90's, and the 'Riot' mission really was great (as I lived in LA during the riots... fun times).
There's only so much 'lol mafia' you can do before people tire of it. Rather than see another cliche Tony whining about Russians, I was happy to see it take an unusual turn to focus on the gangs.

Re: Gta 4 = Wow!!!!
Not sure what the problem is with the "hip-hop" culture I found it gave it a new direction to the series, as opposed to the same old (as Uranium puts it) 'lol mafia' scenario, and living in a place with a larger community of black people and that hip-hop culture, I guess I can relate to it more than an italian guy in the mafia. I think Uranium was also right in regards to his comments about the different aspects of crime with the different games.
I think this game also kind of deals with the issue of illegal immigration...often, this is one of the only ways that people find a way of making a good living, and I personally know several people who'd definitely say the same, and again, in terms of being to relate in terms of a personal level, after many Eastern European countries joining the EU, Britain has had an influx of Eastern Europeans, and there is a decently sized population in my local area. Also, because of the fact that my parents aren't native to England themselves, and I'm a member of that 'ethnic community', I have met, and am friends with people from abroad.
Sorry if the whole thing sounds disjointed, I was really trying to keep everything politically correct
.
P.S. The 2nd ever game I've seen get a 10/10 from Gamespot, and that is a huge achievement. The only other game to get the 10 (as far as I know of) was "Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time", and Gamespot have considerably raised their standards since then.
I'm definitely impressed.
Edit: Lol, this is brilliant. Lifted from the Ocarina of Time review, just thought I'd re-read a bit of it after all these years:
Year of review: 1998
