Re: http://www.gas-price-relief.net/?

ill throw my two cents in on this, and the 'fry oil' fuel as well...

my uncle was talking about making a hydrogen generator that would separate o2 and hydrogen from water, and the gases would go into the intake... this is what i think the site is talking about.... he is thinking about doing it, and it can be done with any internal combustion motor ( gas, diesel, e85... ect) and imho, it would work... altho i dont know how well

as for fry oil powering diesel, a good friend of mine and her father and brother got into the grease powered diesel industry about 5 years ago.. as it was just getting big, they started by first mixing grease and diesel (called greasle) but they came across problems with it being too thick to burn, the system they use now is awesome.. they have 3 diesel jettas, and 2 ford 6.0l diesels, 1 7.3l ford diesel 1 dodge cummings diesel and 2 old diesel VW trucks(i havent seen the trucks yet) they collect used grease from grease dumpsters around the area(this is the hard part because you have to have permission from both the owner of the restauraunt and have to notify the grease pickup company that they dont need to pickup weekly) they then put the grease in a centerfuge and spin the food debris away from the grease, it then gets filtered three times (this whole process is done while the grease is at 150F) this system is perfected for them.... their total cost per gallon is just under .7c per gallon... it costs about 22c per DAY for electricity for the pumps and fuel to heat the oil during the purification process... the vehicle must also be modified ($1700 for the 1.9 jetta, $2200 for 99+ ford 7.3 and 6.0 ). that cost includes a grease tank (it goes in the spare tire area of the jetta and in the bed of the trucks of the fords and dodge, and a computer that meters the temp of the grease ... the vehicles start on diesel, and the exhaust heats the grease tank to 150 (the temp where the grease becomes liquid again) and performance and mileage are IDENTICAL to running on diesel.... exhaust smells like french frys, but oh well... for .7c a gallon, i wont complain... the jettas can go about 1700 miles on one tank of diesel (since it is only used for about 2 minutes) and 45 miles per gallon of grease thereafter, the trucks go about 2200 miles per diesel fillup, and 17-22 miles per gallon of grease thereafter... this is a really good system if you drive a diesel vehical... time is the only downside of this, 4-6 hours a week of collecting and another 12 hours to process the grease per week is enough to fuel every vehicle with the conversion(the processing doesnt have to be attended to continuously), and room to spare... they currently have about 2000gal of processed grease in storage and they are looking to find people to do the conversion and sell grease to them at half the cost of diesel (currently $4.55 around here)

I work at a auto shop and we get cars in all the time that die on them soon after filling up at a gas station and the problem is allways large amounts of water in the gas we have to pull the gas tank drain it dry it replace spark plugs and fuel filters all because of greedy gas companys spikin our gas.

Yeah, that. Couldn't find the link (but I didn't look very hard).

I want one of those so bad. I don't even know what I'd do with it. Maybe make it so a bluetooth nuclear weapon in my torso will make ominous beeping sounds so if I ever get crushed by a log I can blow up the guy who killed me as he makes a dramatic escape.

Racetrack got in trouble a few years back for doing that. They have cruddy gas any way, though. This is why I ONLY fill up at Chevron, Shell, or Texaco. They cost more, but have the best additives and cleanest gas. I learned this the hard way, since I had to clean my car's throttle body like 3 times in the first 80,000 miles of it's life. I stopped using cheap gas, and it's gone 40,000 miles and is still clean as a whistle. I can do the throttle-body service myself, but for most folks, it's a pretty expensive job to get done. My advice? Don't skimp on your gas if you care about the life of your car. When all your internals are clean, it contributes to better mpg.

I've been told it's a good idea not to fill at a station right after a tanker unloads, as the process stirs up all the gunk that settles on the bottom of the tank and you end up pulling it into your car's tank. That would also tend to pull in any water that had condensed in the station tank and then got mixed as a result of the station filling.

Also stay away from older gas stations and gas stations that are located in vallys where water can gather thier tanks may have leaks in the seals and water can get in the tanks.

Re: http://www.gas-price-relief.net/?

Another thing you can do to cheapen your gas bill: trade in your car for a motorcycle. Seriously. A brand new Honda Rebel/Suzuki GZ250 (basically the same bike) costs 3100 bucks retail. Thats straight off the showroom floor. The insurance (full comprehensive coverage) will run you about 350 bucks a YEAR if you have a relatively decent driving record. Sure, it may only do 70-75 miles per hour, but who needs to go much faster than that?

Oh yeah, did I mention that with a 16 tooth front sprocket (19 bucks plus installation which you can do yourself in literally 10 minutes) you get close to 80 miles per gallon? Yeah, thats right. For the 250 miles you can go on 10 gallons in a car, one of these babies can do over 3x that amount. Only downside is having a 2.4 gallon tank, so fillups are slightly more frequent, but a hell of a lot cheaper.

Sure, riding a motorcycle is relatively dangerous compared to a car, but if everyone had them it'd be just the same. In addition, once you've been a biker for a day, you're much more aware of bikers whenever you're in a car. Good experience either way.

Plus, and lastly, being able to ride a motorcycle is always a good idea. You never know when the apocalypse is gonna come and the only thing you can find to ride in the postapocalyptic wasteland is a harley. I'll have my getaway skills, will you?

Re: http://www.gas-price-relief.net/?

I personally hate Circle K gas, yes it's $.10-$.15 cheaper per gallon, but I end up filling up 2x as often and my car runs like crap when I used to use their gas. I stick with Chevron unless I ABSOLUTELY must have gas right then, it's a little bit more expensive, but I can run a whole week on one fill up from there as opposed to twice a week with CK.

I considered the Motorcycle, but at 2 with 1 speeding ticket and 1 wreck (not at fault on the wreck), my insurance would be astronomical.

What would be a good, relatively inexpensive, motorcycle for a beginner?

The one i suggested cald. In florida, when you take the motorcycle certification class, thats the one they use to teach you. And the insurance would be less than half of what you pay for insurance on a car.

Re: http://www.gas-price-relief.net/?

If you want something a bit sportier and still DIRT cheap, check into the Kawasaki Ninja 250. My buddy had one, and I believe it could do about 110. I had a GSX-R 600, so he couldn't touch me on the straight roads, but he kept up just fine on the twisties. Either way, I guess that's irrelevant, because those Rebels get friggin' awesome gas mileage for dirt cheap. Never thought about the sprocket change. Hopefully we'll be seeing more bikes on the road these days. And it's true what you said Ferris, I rode a motorcycle for years, and it wasn't until I started riding that I became so aware of bikers. Now when I'm in my car, I give them extra room when behind them, always let them pass, etc. I watch out for their safety since most car drivers don't. Especially women driving SUV's whilst talking on their cell-phones and putting on make-up at the same time. I almost got creamed several times by those clowns. Those motorcycle safety classes saved my life in more than one instance, so take them if you haven't already and thinking about buying a bike.

Try almost suicidal. Besides, a motorcycle isn't economical for 90% of the population.

I see an Epinions article about a Savage 650. Whats funny about that? Lower gas mileage, bigger, heavier bike. So what's the humor here?
