Re: WWII Heritage
Now that is something that is amazing to me. Americans don't often have that perspective and I bet it makes for a different view.
We are usually on the invading/protection of other countries. But to keep on fighting once the enemy has already defeated the main defenses is something else.
I bet that accounts for some of the different attitudes between Europeans and North Americans. Especially for things like demonstrating.I’m not racists, I have republican friends. Radio show host.

Re: WWII Heritage
Both my grandfathers were involved in WWII.
My American Grandpap was in the NAVY and served on a NAVY Battleship in the Pacific for a short time. He was allowed to go home in '42 since he was married and had 6 kids. I guess that was one of the rules back then. He never talked about his time in.
My Dutch Opa was with the Dutch National Socialist (NSB). Basically NAZI collabarateurs or Dutch fascists without the anti-semetism or racial issues. He was a supply/logistics runner during the war when the Germans occupied Holland. He spent 7 months in a POW camp after the war eventhough he never fired a weapon. Never really got to know him since I was only 9 when he died. Rumor has it that I was his favorite grandson.
They were both my heroes.

Re: WWII Heritage
Found some more photo's of my Grandfathers ship HMS Nabob.
Also after the torpedo hit the crew managed to get her up to a whopping 3 Knots for the 5 day trip back to Scapa Flow. The U-Boat that struck her tailed her all the way there and would have probably finished her off if one brave pilot hadn't managed to get his plan off the sloping deck to provide overwatch.
