Blu-Ray Movie Recommendation Wanted
Well, I finally did it. I waited the blu-ray/hd-dvd war out and blu-ray won. Game wise, I was still leaning toward an X-Box 360, but then MGS4 came out last week. Sony release the MGS4 PS3 bundle, so that pushed me over the edge. So far, I'm really impressed with how much they've drastically improved the system throughout their many updates. It is now fully DivX capable and can play all my videos/music/pictures straight off my network. Now it has true 1080p support, sports an 80gb hd which can easily be swapped out with most 2.5" hd's, and is backward compatible with most PS1/PS2 games. And best of all? It's one of the cheapest Blu-Ray/Media Center solutions.
Now the hard decision that I need help with. What movie should I buy on BD that REALLY shows off what this baby can do. I heard they re-released a remastered version of "The Fifth Element" for the second time on BD, so that could be pretty nice. Blade Runner could also be a good pick. But from what I've seen, not all Blu-Ray movies are worth the upgrade. Some of them don't look THAT much better than a standard upscaled DVD. That's why I want your help."Common sense is not so common." -Voltaire

Re: Blu-Ray Movie Recommendation Wanted
Hmmmm....i have Casino Royale, it looks very sexy in blueray on the 42" ad its not even a 1080p TV....Also, i think spider man 3 looks good, but there is a certain graininess (typo?) to some scenes which is dissapointing. Pirates of the Carribean is bloody nice to look at, and it has kiear knightly in it.....same goes for underworld, and kate beckinsdale, but its a dark movie anyway, so may ot show it off all that much. I would recommend Blood Diamond and Saw, as well as Hostel. Fantastic 4 is very high quality i thought. But its hard to beat any war film on BluRay, such as Full Metal Jacket.
PS: Im not a film buff, i used to work at this stuff, thats how i know! And a bit of a buff!
Sadly i havnt been able to pick up MGS4 yet, would you recommend, i loved all the others, long term fan here!

Yes. MGS4 is incredible! If you're a fan of the predecessors, you'll LOVE this one. The graphics are easily the best I've seen in any game. Period. And that's saying a lot. If you have a PS3, BUY THIS GAME. If you don't have a PS3 and love the MG series, then it is actually totally worth buying a system to play it.

Re: Blu-Ray Movie Recommendation Wanted
Awesome! Just ordered it. What a deal. It has like every version of the movie possible! And by buying "The Fifth Element" for $15, I got free shipping on both! So for under $30, I'm getting 2 movies. "The Fifth Element" was almost $25 at Target, so it looks like Amazon.com is the place to buy Blu-Ray movies for sure!

Ooh! Transformers! Good call. Sadly the Matrix trilogy isn't out on Blu-Ray yet. It did come out on HD-DVD, though. What a shame.
