    Re: Finally

The signing ceremony, by Baroness Taylor, Minister for Military Procurement, will finally end a long argument within the services over how money is shared.
That can't be good news. If the Baroness is involved, then Destro is probably right around the corner...

She's hot. Even with the glasses.

The only thing that worries me aside from Cobra Command hotties is that the ships will take 10 years to build. Not that I expect something as complicated as a super carrier to be built overnight, but how outdated will the technology in those things already be when they hit service?

    Re: Finally

Funny you should post this. While waking up this morning and eating breakfast I watched a show on the Military Channel about supercarriers, and they talked a lot about how the Nimizt is the monster of the sea, and nothing else comes close. But they also talked about how game changing the Harrier and the short jump ships the British invented were. Gave countries the chance for a lot of firepower without the size and cost of the US behemoth.
Now tons of countries use jump ships like yours, like Italy and Spain. Guess the gov. decided they were going to have a few bigger guns around.

Yeah, but Harriers aren't exactly masters of the air... There's definitely something to be said for being able to fill the air with SuperHornets in a matter of minutes.

I know what you mean. I was on a Navy Nuclear Sub that is touted to the public as top of the line kick ars machine...The whole time we are running the Sonar Shack on AN-UYK7 computers that ran off of Huge Magnetic Reels. Rebooting that system to restart the Sonar Shack was wayyyyy fun!

    Re: Finally

Some in the Army have argued that Britain should rely on American for seagoing air support, and spend money on better armoured vehicles.

However the Navy seems to have won the battle.

Although, as the bills begin to tot up, the carriers may come at the price of fewer new submarines and escorts as the fleet gets ever smaller.
So what do you use these for?

Serious? Aircraft carriers are used to project air power from the sea.
