I saw it yesterday, and while I wouldn't say that I hated it, I was disappointed. Acting was good. Story was OK. I guess the film was just overhyped for me. People talking about posthumous oscars for Ledger, this thread, the box office numbers... It just wasn't that great of a movie.

What I find funny is that people say Ledger reinvented the Joker when he really didn't. If you read the original comics both the Joker and the Riddler were VERY evil, morbid, insane, cynical, cruel characters. However, then had to make them more "kid friendly" in all the other movies and shows. Ledger played the Joker as the REAL Joker. Don't get me wrong and think I'm saying he was bad. Ledger is what made that movie for me. All I'm saying is he didn't reinvent the Joker, just played him as he truly was.
Even is Ledger hadn't died, I would've expected him to get an award for his performance. I don't think one bit that he will get it only b/c he died like some say.
I never really cared for any of the other movies, but I WILL be buying this, hopefully a special edition, as soon as it comes out.

Heath Ledger gave a great performance and although the original comic Joker was brutal and cruel, no film/tv version has ever been this dark and truly evil. And reading some of the original comics including him, frankly, it wasn't as disturbing as Ledger's Joker was, either.

I hate when the hype brings a movie down. I went into the movie not expecting greatness but expecting less than the first because i really like the first one.

    Re: Batman!

I was expecting on par with 'begins', but I think this one was even darker. The comedy was even morbid - or maybe I am just twisted enough to find some of the darker stuff funny. I hated the first series of movies and love that the last two have gone back to the comic book roots more and pulled back from the cartoon-y versions. Spiderman can get away with it, superman can get away with it - batman I don't think can pull it off. He is too much the anti-hero (e.g. spawn, punisher, ghost rider) to get away with it. This film pulls batman back down to the darker borders of good/evil where the struggle to stay on one side is harder. The previous series put batman almost above reproach, whereas the newer movies make him more of an outcast.

^^^I found the comedy pretty bad well in regards to the Joker. Alfred and Lucus Fox were great but I only recall laughing at the Joker once. I believe it was when he was blowing up Gotham General.

My understanding is that there are actually multiple Jokers. First a serial killer, then a trickster thief, and back to being a homicidal maniac.

I find Dark Knight's Joker alright. While he is evil/not kid friend/etc he isn't really funny. That is one thing (in the case of the Burton many more for TAS) I would put was that Jack and DCAU Jokers were a good mix of being genuinely funny and a sadistic madmen.

I am not sure which Joker I would consider move evil though. Call me a fanboy but I have to go with DCAU Joker. Granted it's not really fair to compare two 2 hour and some change movies against 100+ episode series and four movies.

Sigh I am sad now. God I miss the DCAU. Damn you Warner Bros.
