Gun history question: revolvers
i recently purchased a 1:1 .357 magnum airsoft replica as far as airsoft guns go its complete rubbish it has no range and is less accurate then Helen Keller using a sniper rifle. but like all revolvers it is very manly and smells of America. since my airsoft team is spec ops i will probably never get to use this gun in a real game but it did get me wondering did the US armed forces ever issue revolvers?

Airsoft is tactical we do have special operation games and my group only plays in that enviroment we do not scrim and if there isnt any organized structure to the game we leave

To answer your question...
As soon as Revolvers hit the scene, the army started using them. The most famous, IMO, would be the colt single action army...

They were used in World War 1 and 2, alongside the M1911 Semi-Automatic we all know and love. I know for a fact the british used a revolver in World War 2 as a side arm, but I can't think of the name.
Either way, revolvers are nice, but were mostly used in the 19th century (1800's). Once semi-automatic became more and more standard, there wasn't much of a reason to keep revolvers around in the military.Last edited by Skud; 07-22-2008 at 12:08 AM.

The Enfield no. 2 mark II revolver. Double action.
Revolvers are still used in civilians since people say they are reliable, relatively easy to clean, and easy to conceal because of the skeletal design.Former Cutthroat, established Merc.

so thats the peacemaker ive heard of it but never knew what it was
