Re: My first gun
what can i say im very happy with this gun. Since i bought it ive put about 400 rounds thru it. ..357 and .38specials. Very fun to shoot, and expensive. Ive bought a holster, grips, speed loaders, new springs, and a whole ton of ammo. So im going to highly recommend Taurus or Rossi to anyone looking for a very affordable type revolver.
My dad is even jealous, and he has a desert eagle.that sounds like a good idea trooper.

Re: My first gun
Very nice wheel gun. Would have gone with a semi auto myself, in the .40 size, but to each his own. I used to own a S&W Sigma .40, very easy to handle and shoot. When I was working security I used the Hydroshock hollow points. Almost as much stopping power as a .45 1911 with less kick.
Would love to show you a pick of my first weapon, but I cant post images or links until I have posted 15 times. So go look up M109 paladin.
Just kidding, just the largest gun I have "owned" was a gun chief on one of the monsters. First gun was a .32 Bersa. very nice compact pistol.Last edited by Beinseth; 09-04-2008 at 01:10 PM. Reason: show off my favorite gun, but cant post images or urls.

Re: My first gun
My thoughts are if i get a wheel gun now, im getting an auto for CCW. So yes either a .45 or a .40 for CCW.
And i feel like a cowboy when i shoot it..that sounds like a good idea trooper.

Re: My first gun
Congrats Trooper..

Am glad you found you a gun you are happy with..
What made you go to wood grips over pachmayers? Just to be "pretty"..? There are some nice wood grips that have a spongy foamy insert around the edges for helping you maintain a good grip, which of course in a "situation" is very critical..
I have shot a couple of Taurus revolvers and I never saw anything wrong with them whatsoever..very nice inexpensive guns that server their purpose...

Re: My first gun
And if you are going to continue to shoot a lot of rounds, consider asking your local gun pro guys about a good place to get reliable reloads..much cheaper! You keep the Hydrashocks for security and shoot cheaper reloads for practice.

This time of year here, there is a huge gun show every weekend...I went and got another bucket of .40's and .223's as I am going to the "El Rancho" this weekend to get some pesky hogs and coyotes that are causing my sister some grief..

Re: My first gun
Actually i never ended up getting the wood grips, the ones i was looking at where round butt only, mine is square. But yes wood grips would be for prettys. I ordered some new hogue grips instead.
And yes reloads are going to happen in near future. So im saving all my brass and such for reloading.that sounds like a good idea trooper.

Re: My first gun
What ranges are those?
Everyone in DFW metroplex allow you to restock your brass!

Re: My first gun
If you want to have some fun, and to work on "being surprised" every time you squeeze the trigger, try randomly loading your revolver with a mix of the two calibers. If you're not anticipating the shot, it shouldn't matter which caliber goes boom when you squeeze the trigger. If you are anticipating, then the mixture of big booms and little booms will make you notice and you can work on correcting yourself...

Re: My first gun
Alpine won't let you, even out ont he skeet range
..the place in Whiskey Flats..close to Big John's firewood won't let you, and last time I was downtown, they would totally freakout if you even tried..Ewell Cross (now called "Castle Arms" or something stupid) might, but I have not ever asked, or tried so I am not sure..
Most of the time I am shooting reloads anyways at the range, so I could care less..I do not reload anything myself, as I am afraid of blowing myself to Mars..

Don't ranges make some income collecting spent brass?

Re: My first gun
I'd imagine they sell it to scrap metal services, since that'd be easier than sorting things out by caliber. Maybe they re-load, or sell to people who do. I have no idea. They've gotta be making money off these in some way, though. Doesn't bother me any, because the ranges I go shoot at are ridiculously cheap.

Re: My first gun
I only know about one place for sure, but the owners' son sweeps it up and "sorts" it for different qualities and calibers, and they sell it to a company that does nothing but "reloads" rounds..called the "Dallas Reloading Center"..they are the guys that I get all my ammo from, as it is usually about 40%-50% less, and I have not had one bad round from them in over 20 years of buying from them, and I assume that they buy used brass from all over from other places as well..it gets tumbled/polished and re-used after an inspection process.
