Re: Officially Official, Honda's new hybrid is the Insight!
Honda Insight is not something new. They just took it back to the drawing board cause it was not selling as good as the Prius because it could not be distinguished between the regular gasoline version and the hybrid version. Prius was selling 50,000 units in a month compared to the Insight selling only 5,000 units in a month. Same for Chevy and their little hybrid they had about a year ago, none has been able to compete with the Prius in sales in the hybrid department.
Now, I seen a guy take a Prius and then modify it so much that he was getting 110 MPG with it. Of course he didn't have any passengr room at all cause of the extra batteries and then he used a fifth wheel that is an electric motor that while in town/city he used to keep the regular gasoline engine from coming on. Once the car got up to 35 MPH thne it switched over to the normal electric motor(s) of the Prius. When the batteries got drained enough the gasoline engine would come on of course but he also had all sorts of alternative power to help charge the batteries, such as solar and wind. When driving along he would have a mall wind powered generator that would charge his batteries back up.
Wish I could remember that site cause it was very interesting... something to do with hypermilers or hypermileage?
EDIT:
First year the Honda Insight was released was 2000.Last edited by msdz; 09-08-2008 at 09:16 PM.

Re: Officially Official, Honda's new hybrid is the Insight!
Thanks for that link!
I'm liking this concept:

It is a really good read, especially after what started happening this morning.
Last night I was driving home about 10:30 or so and I drove past a gas station selling for $3.99. I was like WTF, stupid station is never going to sell gas for that much with it being just $3.75 right down the street.
So this morning my wife calls and wakes me up. She was watching the news and then on her way to work saw that everywhere is up to $3.99 now, except for one local Hess station, and she actually talked me into going to fill up before they raised the price. Mind you I was still half asleep when I said o.k., but then while I'm driving there I see that just about every gas station is packed with lines of people. I got to the station I was go to, and each pump had 3-4 people waiting, including buses and big rigs.
And to top it off, I actually waited in line and got gas. (fear of paying more for gas is nothing against fear of a mad wife
)
But look what gas prices are doing to people. Just because a storm might hit part of Texas everyone panics!
Point is, I don't give a crap what it looks like, I am tired of driving a vechical that gets 15-17mpg. If the new hybrids can give me 40+, or even better 60+ as some are suggesting, I will be buying one just so I don't have to be one of the people like who were at the station today.
And while I'm on my soapbox. I really hope none of you are stupid enough to be considering voting for McCain and Palin. And that is coming for someone who was planing to vote McCain until the last few months just blew me away. How does everyone not see that of course Palin wants drill drill drill. Her husband works for the oil companies and it just means more money in her pocket, just like the war meant more money in Cheney's pocket through both Halliburton and oil.
I was interested in McCain because he was a maverick, and wasn't saying yes to everything in the party line when he knew it wasn't right. Now he is bending over and taking it all up the ass at once, like he was one of them all along.
Just read this if you want to crap your pants some more:
http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5...C_ckfF5rK_EirQ
Now personally, I don't GAF if they did blow and spanked some skanks, but I do care that the oil companies who are already making BILLIONS in profits and complaining none stop about why should they have to pay taxes, isn't actually paying what little they were supposed to anyway. And guess who posts people to jobs in the Interior dept. The administration in charge at the time. Guess who that is.US Department of the Interior employees who handled billions of dollars in oil contracts improperly engaged in sex with energy company employees, a report released Wednesday said.
and
The alleged misconduct involved at least 13 current and former employees of the department's Minerals Management Service (MMS) accused of rigging contracts and accepting gifts and engaging in "illicit sexual encounters" with subordinates and industry representatives, Devaney said.
and the kicker:
The explosive accusations focus on the MMS's Royalty in Kind (RIK) program, which manages commercial oil and gas sales activity and barters that oil and gas to the government in lieu of payments for drilling on federally-owned offshore lands.
I would keep going, but the part above is very much on topic in this tread, and the rest is best left for a sandbox post.
But back to the usual happy Bamboo you all know, I offer you this.

It had me LOL after about the 50sec. mark parts. Remind me again why people watch FOX news.
Will she be getting advice from Santa, because I do trust that guy!
