Re: Who is the Oldest Here?

    Hello

    1) How do you feel about your age?
One thing the digital world does is let me be equal with all other digital troopers. I can sit comfy and huff & puff with all the young guns and give as good as I get. My digi trooper runs just as fast as everyone else.
I suppose what I lose with my eyesight & reactions I gain back in experience and nouse [knowledge], and a BL**DY BIG SCREEN

    2) What do you think of us younger gamers?
They have all the enthusiasm and drive that comes with youth. That helps to keep the environment fresh and interesting.
But also the older knarled "fighting Sgt's" can get to show the young pups the ways to battle effectively. SPEED + BATTLE KNOWLEDGE = FEARSOME WARRIORS

    3) What was the first game you played?
omg probably one of those tennis things where the bats slid up and down at each side of the screen. There were also the text only games played maily on green screen "Com Pet"
Probably the first game proper was ELITE a wire frame space trade/ fight/ conquer the universe game.
My interest then was mainly on flight syms and I still have most of them now. I occasionally fire up Falcon etc for a quick tank bust or mid air refuel and the like.
Allied assult was the first military sym I played but I prefer the more simulated type of game compared to the arcade style. So ArmA has it all for me its just the time it sucks up that's a bit difficult to manage. That's where the CoD series scores in that you can jump in and out at liesure. You lose some of the immersion but the trade of is you still get battle probs to solve and match your skills against the nme tactics.

    4) How did you come to know and be a part of Tactical Gamer?
Found when doing a web search, actually I think I found a book on tactics for Arma made by ????? Dslyecxi of SHACK TACTICAL and in there was a prompt to visit TG. I did and became a supporting member.

Re: Who is the Oldest Here?

I'm 63, but that's not the oldest. Barnaby seems to have that distinction!

My time at TG goes back to the "old" forums (2001/2002??), but was after the old, old Network 42 days. I came to TG because of Ghost Recon and had the honor of being on a couple of the first 'Net-wide GR competitive teams fielded by TG in tournament play. For those that might remember, Badger was our "coach"...just awesome!!

As far as age goes, I mostly don't take a lot of note of chronological age of fellow players (apart from joking around), but rather their in-game play and persona...heh...and something called "maturity". We all know mature teen age gamers...and 40-something year old juveniles.

Please be honest, because 300 years old doesn't fly in the real world.

Oh, and questions for the oldest of the two above questions:

    1) How do you feel about your age?

    2) What do you think of us younger gamers?

    3) What was the first game you played?

    4) How did you come to know and be a part of Tactical Gamer?
Hey I'm still here and I am 62 and a half. (read George Carlin's thing about age)

1:I am happy right where I am. I retired from the railroad where I was a software developer. I have grandchildren that I love to spend time with. I have been blessed with two wonderful wives, 1st wife of 34 years died and the Good Lord provided another wonderful woman.

2:When it comes to playing here age doesn't matter. This is why I like this place. Age or skill doesn't matter. Just follow the rules and remember this is just a game. And have fun.

3ong. I was playing text games about this time also. Zork, Cave Adventure, which was the one of the best games because the graphic were awesome because it was the written word and you had to use you imagination and you can't beat that even today.

4:I played CIV from the beginning, bought a sound card and thought that was the greatest.

The first FPS game was Wolfenstin.

I kept reading about the graphic in FarCry so I bought it. Played multiplayer awhile and the guys I was playing with all went to COD and I have been playing ever since. The people I played with were from all over the world and I soon lost contact. So I needed a place that an old person that was not very good could play. I Googled COD and came across TG and haven't looked for anything else since.

    I miss him, man!

I turn 37 this month near Thanksgiving. It's great to see that we have such a wide selection of ages. I believe having the wide range of ages helps to grow some maturity here. Some young gamers come on here not having a clue what this gaming style is about. We then have some experienced people here to help calm them down. It lends interesting points of view in the forums and they can yell "get off my thread" (well, lawn didn't fit!)

Zork! Text games...ah, I haven't played that in many years.

Okay, so to recap so far...

    Barnaby - Oldest Supporting Member
kin3 - Second oldest Supporting Member

    M|STJimBob - Oldest Non-Supporting Member

    Commonality between the three?

They each thought that in the virtual gaming world, they are offered a equal footing with us young bloods. They like that, but know they can't do those overnight gaming sessions with us.

They all have family (assuming Bob does) and are probably great go-to-people for love advice.

They all have played games that most of us have heard about or played and most of us didn't know they were that old.
