    I'm "TG" Too!

I've seen more and more divisiveness lately from different segments of the TG community - enough so that I felt the need to start this thread. TG's core tenant is that of providing a community for mature gamers a place to enjoy tactical-based gaming. Yes there is the phrase "near-simulation" in the primer - but that phrase can and must apply different to every game supported by TG. Near-Simulation simply does not mean the same thing in PR as it does in World of Warcraft. It doesn't mean the same thing in Team Fortress 2 and Counter-Strike Source. How can we determine what 'simulation' is in a shooter set over 100 years in the future when we look at the advancement of real-world technology in the last TEN years?

So guess what folks. We're all doing the best we can. You don't get to be a 'special' TG member just because the gameplay in your chosen game is slower than that of another. Slow does not equal teamwork. Teamwork equals teamwork. Likewise because you can and/or will spend two hours on a single round doesn't make you truer to TG than the rest of us - it just means you're lucky enough to have two hours to spend on a single round and we're jealous.

We are all here because we like teamwork with fellow mature gamers. And frankly, this 'I'm better than you because my game is more realistic/hardcore/slower than yours' attitude that some facets of this community have started to carry is not terribly mature. It also isn't very conducive to building a cohesive community.

We're all special, unique snowflakes. Whether you're a snowflake who likes spending twenty minutes crawling through the grass in order to not shoot someone, or a snowflake who wants to be a Night Elf. Provided we're acting in a mature manner, and supporting a near-simulation environment appropriate to the game we're actually playing, let's be supportive of that. Let's not spend our time trying to tell people from other games how they should or shouldn't be playing. Or what rules they should or shouldn't have. Because I swear to goodness, the next time I see someone talking rubbish about another section of the community regarding a game they don't even play I'm going to have Reaperassault and Quade dance naked and post videos of it. And nobody wants that you. Not you, not me, not anybody.

Can't we all just get along?

    3) Support game play in a near-simulation environment. Where the focus of play would not be solely on doing what it takes to win, but doing so utilizing real-world combat strategy and tactics rather than leveraging exploits provided to players by the design of the game engine, regardless of the level of advantage, if any, it gives over the opposing team.

A lot of times people quote that principle and never bother to include the rest of it. To me it is fairly straight forward and doesn't really involve how realistic the game is when you include the entire principle. The principle really deals with tactics more so than "realism." Don't take advantage of the game engine, none of them are perfect, don't blow yourself/commit suicide, just use common sense tactics.

To me, it means that since every game provides a fictional environment in which we attempt to virtually join, we should attempt to contribute towards the immersion and fun of gaming instead of taking advantage of the imperfection that our games inevitably demonstrate. In other words, we participate in our games in much the same way that we would if they were real. If there really were elves and orcs, the TG WoW guild would know exactly how to handle them. If there were mechs and hovertanks, I'd expect our 2142 folks to be subject matter experts. If we were to suddenly become real life CounterTerrorist specialists, I would hope that we would act in much the same way that we do on the PCS server. And when the zombie invasion comes, well, you know.

Crux, I can see this post may be directed towards me, and I would like to make a formal apology for what I said earlier regarding how when I played 2142 I felt it lacked teamwork. All of TG's games involve teamwork, this is a fact. I am simply explaining my experiences in those games. I didn't even play on the TG server, so in no way was this an insult upon the community. I was expressing my opinion on a game, if this offended you, I am sincerely sorry.

The release of the ACE mod has helped greatly. The server has a steady influx of 30 people during most of the day.

    Re: I'm "TG" Too!

As a gamer that plays/or have played many of the games at TG, i notice people are sometimes advocating for one game or two in particular. I can understand this as they prefer that kind of game.

But what's important is exactly what Crux says. We need to embrace and respect eachothers games and be happy that the TG community is big and diverse. This makes the community bigger, better and more fun in so many ways. It also secures the future TG.

This usually means i can always hop into a new game and be met by devoted like-minded TG'ers wanting to teach and showcase me the best the game has to offer TG-style. It's great!

NO apologies needed, Sonic. It wasn't directed at you, but a general statement. I truly was not singling any one person out!

    Re: I'm "TG" Too!

Here are my two cents on this matter.

I came to TG playing CS:S and fell in love immediately. Since it was my first server that I played on after installing, I thought all servers were like this. Then I found out that 99% of the servers out there do not support teamwork the way TG does. Then I installed BF2 and PR, then my love for TG re-kindled. Teamwork is what were are all about.

Then my last 3 months before deploying, I installed 2142...and guess what I found again. TEAMWORK. That is why Tactical Gamer as a whole is a very popular and successful community. It is not ONE single game that makes |TG|. It is the players that live and play by the primer.

    Re: I'm "TG" Too!

Plain and simple.... I have stayed with TG because I have found no other community that dedicates so much to keeping an active community of "MATURE" gamers on a wide range of games and servers.

Not everything is perfect and not everyone gets along all the time but overall this is the best community to come play some great "GAMES"...because no matter how realistic or what type of an environment your favorite game is, they are all still just "GAMES", meant to be ENJOYED and have fun in!
