    Parkour/Freerunning

I'm not sure if this thread has been done before, but since there was nothing on the Search function...
Does anyone do Parkour/freerunning? Wants to learn how to?

"Parkour (sometimes also abbreviated to PK) or l'art du déplacement[1] (English: the art of movement) is an activity with the aim of moving from one point to another as efficiently and quickly as possible, using principally the abilities of the human body.[2] It is meant to help one overcome obstacles, which can be anything in the surrounding environment—from branches and rocks to rails and concrete walls—and can be practiced in both rural and urban areas. Parkour practitioners are referred to as traceurs, or traceuses for females.[3]"

He was told that he should not kill, and he did not kill, until he got into the Army. Then he was told to kill, and he killed.

    Re: Parkour/Freerunning

I have seen a lot of the free running vids out there and liked the opening sequence of Casino Royale where they had one of the founders of Parkour, Sébastien Foucan in the scene and think it is pretty kewl...

For me I used to be able to run and I am working back to be able to run without keeling over but some of the advanced stuff I will leave to the younger crowd...LOL!

    Re: Parkour/Freerunning

I used to do parkour, few years back when it was first getting popular in the states. I have been on the front page of the entertainment section for the Miami Herald and Atlanta Journal Constitution. I did this radio interview as well...heh it was pretty fun. Sport is hell on your knees though, even if you land with a roll. Well that might have been just me, I for some reason liked jumping off high things back then. Any how, it is great exercise...and it is not so dangerous if you are smart about it. I suppose that goes for anything though.

But ya if you have any questions I'd be happy to answer.

I love this show Sport Science on FSN. This is the episode where they analyzed Victor Lopez and what these guys (Tempest) are capable of. Very interesting.

I did some minor freerunning before I started getting too invested in classwork and fencing. I'd just gotten semi-proficient in the kong jumps and single wallbounces before I backed off.

    Oh, really?
I'm trying to learn some parkour right now partly as preparation for my school's swimming season, and partly out of curiosity. My school's robotics team stays pretty late, so I have an excuse to stay and practice when nobody's around.

If you haven't seen it yet, you need to watch District B13. It is French, but has an English dub version on the DVD. The voice overs arn't too good, and it is actually better to watch in French with English subtitles. The plot isn't great, but the action is, and if you have netflix, you can watch the whole movie on your PC last time I checked.

    I actually bought the DVD.

There is a trailer at the link above, but here is one of the scenes:

The guy getting chased is actually one of the creators of freerunning, and wasn't even an actor when he was asked to be in the movie. Does really well though.

Stoop and you'll be stepped on; stand tall and you'll be shot at.
