Re: Need a new game to get into
Apparently you didn't read what I posted. I never said ANYTHING about this organizations server. I made a blanket statement about the game itself. My registration date has nothing to do with the fact that I've played CS since it's release, as well as most of the Steam games published. Since I never stated how THIS group plays or how THIS groups server functions... my experience in playing with all of you should not come into question.
This...
Refers to the player (in general) in the game, not the TG server. If that's where you got confused then you need to re-read through my post. As I stated it is a game most often NOT associated with tactical play (as in using team oriented tactics to achieve a goal). Most often players leap around the map firing blindly and rushing into each other. As the game mechanics are limited, you wont have the same quality of tactical play as compared to say Project Reality for BF2 or the extreme, ArmA. I'm not saying it's non-existent... I even said that if you have a mod it's possible (and it's now been said there is a mod on the TG server). But again, CS is not often referred to as a tactical game.Unless you have some sort of realism mod on, I just can't possibly believe you're playing tactically (not running and gunning and of course due to game mechanics, shooting from the hip).
Again, good on you for supporting the game and the group here (those you play with). If you enjoy the game and server in TG more power to you. But like I said, the quality of play I have experienced in this game have not been something I can justify my already limited time with. So if someone was to ask what game I would recommend (as the original poster did), then I can't mention this one.
That all said... I will reserve my judgment (as I have done thus far) on the TG CS server. Having not played on the server, or with TG players in-game (that I can recall) I can't obviously comment about the way YOU guys play. I can only speak for what I've seen of the general public or the general gamer. From what I've seen, CS is not a game that interests me. But, there's obviously plenty of people out there that do enjoy it otherwise it wouldn't still exist.

Re: Need a new game to get into
i have played on the TG CS:S servers, a while ago, and I still don't see it as a serious tactical game. Still too fast and gamey for me, most of the time.
But at least it was playable on the TG servers. Unlike on pub servers Iconsidered it garbage and unlayable.

Re: Need a new game to get into
CounterStrike was definitely here before Ghost Recon or Natural Selection. CounterStrike has been around since 1999. Ghost Recon wasn't published until 2001. Natural Selection in 2002.
This community has it's roots in a mod for Quake II, though. Loki's Minions or something similar... You'd have to ask Apophis about that, though, as it's before my time. I came here for the Professional CounterStrike.Become a supporting member!

Well boo! I was all set up to play 2142 and then noticed I have no idea where my disk is. It is already installed on my machine, just needs the disk to play. I tried downloading an image, but apparently cracked images do not work. It is still asking for a disk. I am sure it is around here somewhere, just moved 3 times in the past 3 months...did a pretty extensive hunt last night though.
Guess it is going to be one of those things that pops up when I am not looking for it. L4D is looking more and more temping. Do we have a L4D server? or do you guys just connect through steam?

Re: Need a new game to get into
I used to play AoC, on Cimmeria; level 80 Necro named Azerbal. I am on BF2142 and have been for a long time, and it is really fun! I just kept coming back to it, and found a good Northern Strike server yesterday that I was on for a while. I would say BF2142 is the best bet for now.
Too bad no one plays Infantry Online like they did in the golden days

Re: Need a new game to get into
Well I found my 2142 disk but it seems EA is out to get me because even though I have the original disk, when I try to play the game it still is asking for me to put the disk in the drive. So it turns out it does not matter even if I found the game...sigh

Re: Need a new game to get into
L4D Is great if you don't have alot of time to play games. It's got a very well implimented Join In Progress. On the other hand, ARMA is great if you have a couple of hours and want a very detailed simulation experience with everything from infantry and armour to artillery, attack helicopters, a detailed wounding and medical system, and something like 500 different varieties of fire arms with the new ACE mod.
