Agreed with Calvin, from what I can tell, its a arcade game, not a simulation, which is what Tom Clancy used to, and still should stand for. For that reason, I will not be buying it.

And semi off-topic, what ever happened to the days of a semi realistic combat flight sim, one were you can play it but not need to worry about all the advanced micro management of a fighter jet. in between what hawxs looks like, and falcon 4.0. I want to go up, have the realistic engagements, have to make my shots count, but not need to attend a complete military fighter training course to be able to play it. Something such as combat flight sim 3, but with more modern aircraft.

Well I played jet fighter full burn, still have it lieing around, and have tried to get it running again. Unfortunately XP doesn't enjoy dos programs so its not working out to well.

The good ol days of gaming.

This game annoyed me. The worst thing it has Tom Clancy name on it yet it is just a copy of ace combat. the first mission is nearly the same as the last ace combat.

Also each plane has what 300 missiles each were the hell do they keep them?

was looking forward to a good flying game too

Well I think I'll be buying this, its got the visual quality of Ace Combat, with the extra bonus of a more objective viewpoint in the "assistance off" mode, where you can see your aircraft perform in the air from a more distant viewpoint and yet you still have total control.. it may not be up to the mark as other simulators, but it should provide adrenaline fuelled air combat with the option to appreciate the combat, real time, from an out of cockpit view. Something only reserved for replay reels usually. It should be good for a thrill ride, but obviously its not for serious cockpit dwellers.

The PC Demo is to be release at the same time as the PS3 Demo, which is this Fri I believe.

One thing that bugs me, when you turn off the assists to fly more realistically (Sim like) they dump you to a 3rd person chase cam view. Does that seem backward to anyone else? I would imagine that if you want to fly as a sim you would be placed IN cockpit mode like you were flying. Arcade flight controls = in cockpit, realistic flight controls=3rd person chase cam?????This is backwards, All I ask for is a choice of view even if it means being handicapped by those preferring 3rd person

This game was on my radar for a long time, but until they correct this aspect (at least make it a choice and offer multiple views with all assists off) I will stick with F4

I don't know but I think the Assist off/3rd person mode was meant to enhance visibility in close range dogfighting, the controls still stayed the same though if i recall, only difference was the HUD was turned off

From the ubi Hawx Form Full Q&A here - http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/t...6/m/3071096766

"¢ What are the available view options for the game? I would really like to play from a cockpit perspective.

You will have a specific realistic cockpit view for each of the more than 50 aircrafts featured in the game.

The view options are dependant on what Assistance mode you are in.
When using "assistance ON"¯, you can access 3rd person camera with 360 degree controls, cockpit view, and 1st person camera.
When using "assistance OFF"¯ you have access to the special dogfight camera.
We are currently working on the cockpit view, which explains why we cannot show it to you right now. (Note - This has been dropped by the Devs)

Other general cameras includes: Weapon camera, replay camera, and cinematic camera.
    From Community Dev -

    UPDATE 20.01.2009

I have to clarify one of the first answers in the “Community Q&A”, regarding the camera views:
The view options are dependant on what Assistance mode you are in:

When using "assistance ON", you can access 3rd person camera with 360 degree controls, cockpit view, and 1st person camera.

When using "assistance OFF" you have access to the special dogfight camera – meaning the special dogfight camera is the only camera available in “Assistance OFF”; the reason for this is the specific design of this mode that can only take advantage of this particular camera

About the take off and landing and other features that you guys might have wanted to see in HAWX, the developers have been constantly anouced about them and every point has been discussed. And now, the answers:
    Video from LGC
    HAWX Video From LGC

PC Demo is pushed to March 2, 2009

And just to clear up - Assistance off = expert mode = ERS (Ubi's term). I am not complaining, the way I see it is I have a couple of options - deal with it, change it or move on. Since I will not give them my 50-60 $ and deal with it, nor can I change it, I will be voting with my consumer $ and not purchasing this title as is. Which is really a shame, as I said before, I was really hyped for this game. If you watch the video you'll notice the same words keep popping up - Easy, simple, I don't have to read the manual... I guess I am no longer their target consumer..maybe 30 years ago I was.

*anyone know how to get the media tag to work with this video?

    Another TG site??

Are the guys in the diary videos on the official site french? Is it a french company making it?

I might like it, I enjoy games like that... but honestly I'd probably play it once on easy or normal and then never again (unless TG had a server)

Just released for PC demo a few mins. ago:

    Download: Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. Demo

My game rig motherboard is in the middle of an RMA, so I will have to wait to try it out. Anyone else give it a go?

Just started downloading, will post my opinions on it if it works later.
Shame about the camera issues, I really loved the cockpit viewpoint in Ace Combat, but hated the 3rd person/1st person (the one with just a HUD, no cockpit).

    Thanks for posting the link.

Edit: Ok, here's my first (and probably last) impression. It's quite frustrating; the 'assistance', when turned on, really limits the things you can do. You can't 'drift' (basically stopping the engines and turning to quickly rotate the aircraft about a point - good for evading missiles) when assistance is turned on. However, you only get 3-5 flares, which is the only other way to guarantee that you'll evade a missile. This means that you can't survive very long while using the in-cockpit view. When you turn 'assistance' off, you can do lots of crazy moves and generally feel pretty cool, except it messes with the controls. It shows a third-person view of your aircraft, with your current target in shot as well. This can sometimes lead to situations when the enemy is on your tail and you are flying directly towards the camera, causing much confusion with the turning/rolling moves (left = right, right = left). This leads to a lot of deaths when flying at very low altitudes through the city. The ERS (the blue tunnely thing on the picture above) is quite useful, but the path is only a little bit wider than your aircraft, and if you miss more than a few 'gates', it cancels the ERS, which can be really annoying when flying in the first-person view.
I guess this game could be fun with a group of friends, but as far as singleplayer goes, it's fairly disappointing. It's up to individual tastes in the end, but personally, I'm gonna give this one a miss.

Epic Fail. At least it is pretty. Its not a SIM nor is it made for "casual" gamers. I am not sure who the target is honestly. At the core, decisions were made about the "views" which is one of the leading reasons the game sucks. Oh well... plenty of other great games out there to get instead.

    Re: Tom Clancy's Hawx anyone?

Well, after playing the game for about a hour and a half, and 3 different aircraft, the views need alot of work. I cant really comment on the assistance on mode, as I only used it for getting to the objective.

In the assistance off mode, it got very frustrating. The camera angle made dive bombing very difficult due to the ability to not know your exact altitude.

This same flaw made maneuvering difficult, as you would try to do a Immelmann and hit the ground. And if you managed to live through that getting back to right side up is difficult, at least using the keyboard as it would normally not let you roll beyond 90 degrees.

As for the combat, it isnt to difficult. The missiles have such a large area that the get a lock that it difficult to do. And the AI doesn't really know how to evade until the end, so the 100+ missiles you have are not needed. And atleast in assistance off mode, gun kills are extremely difficult if not imposable as you don't have a exact reference to were the rounds are going to.

On the deffencive side of things, its easy again. You have a lot of notice to when your getting shot at, evaiding, without using flares isnt to hard, mostly because a stall actually has very little effect until after the weapons have past. And even after you stall, the enemy doesn't use it to its advantage.

So guess I will not be picking this up, because its yet another Clancy sell out to the gamers who cant live without action around every corner, the patentice to do a proper intercept, and dog fight.

    Re: Tom Clancy's Hawx anyone?

Wow, if you all go into it expecting to play a slightly-moderately watered down version of Falcon 4.0, no wonder you are so dissapointed. It's entertaining as all hell to watch these airframes do the things they are. But it's not quite as spammy as Ace Combat, and honestly, in terms of mission veriety as applies to combat flight games, you have defend this air target, defend this ground target, kill this air target, kill this ground target. There ARE no original missions anymore (same with FPS/MMO/RTS/Sports/Any game). I played the demo and can't wait for the full game. The control issues are a small bit frustrating, but then I plugged in an xbox 360 controller, and it felt really fluid and natural.
BF3 is a good game, and when they finish it, it may even be a great game.

    Re: Tom Clancy's Hawx anyone?

Unfortonatly, the realism is only a small part of the flaw I have with it. Like i said, the controls, view and difficulty are a small part.

Difficulty is easy to fix, play the full game which has more difficulty levels than easy. However the others, I do not see getting fixed, which are the major problems.

On a side note, I was wrong. The keyboard can roll beyond 90 degrees once you are in a engagement.
