This game is in now way a sim and I don't think it's meant to be. This is just a air-shooter with pretty graphics and implausible physics which will make it fun for what it is, but don't expect any depth of realism because that's not what it's trying to be. It's just a fun shooter for people that don't want to spend 6 months learning to fly and laughable if it claims to be a flight sim.

I personally enjoyed the Ace Combat series much more. The unrealistic physics in HAWX are quite fun actually (drifting etc.), but the camera angle for 'unassisted flying' is annoying as hell; I can't even see what's going on half the time.

Kudos to you if you're able to play like that.

Well, in there defense "crap" does go pretty much hand in hand with "Tom Clancy."

That said, this is possibly the first Clancy game I've played that doesn't make me want to gouge my eyes out. It's basically an arcade shooter and it delivers. I enjoy the numerous different views and mode in which to fly.

Exterior view is great for bombing runs.
1st person is great for lining up radar-guided missiles.
Cockpit view is great for when I want to feel like I'm actually flying. Hilarity at the YF-12A cockpit "View" though.

And, no matter what view mode I'm in, I can immediately switch to OFF and dodge missiles or get to dog fighting.

Sure, the game in nowhere near reminiscent of Jetfighter 2 or ATF, but that's really not what it was meant to be. And Ace Combat is vastly overrated and has been for years.
