Re: EA brings Battlefield 1943 and Battlefield Bad Company 2 to the PC
im kind of in agreence with you. WWII has been played out so many times by so many different companies, there really isnt anything new they can bring out or do. A WWI or civil war game would be pretty neat but the RnG majority would crap if they couldnt use auto weapons......
that sounds like a good idea trooper.

I get it...let's scale backwards, not forwards. Less players, older era....collect cash, deliver the same old same old.

One big falklands campaign would be another option. I suppose that would work best under OFP though.

Re: EA brings Battlefield 1943 and Battlefield Bad Company 2 to the PC
I really want a real BF3 followup to BF2, but then I just realized that EA might be thinking the market this year for modern shooters is going to be really full, with ARMA2, Operation Flashpoint2, and word just leaking out that COD4 Part2 might all be out this year.

If BF:1943 contains any form of BattleRecorder tool I will be overjoyed because despite the predicted horrible gameplay, this game's graphics has the potential for great machinima. I can foresee an epic F4U Corsair vs A6M Zero battle with a mix of BF:1943 and IL2:1946.

Re: EA brings Battlefield 1943 and Battlefield Bad Company 2 to the PC
From Kotaku
What We Saw
One multiplayer map on the New York Comic-Con show floor at the EA booth. Gordon Van Dyke, associate producer at Dice, was on hand to first show me through some of the new features for the game before I messed around with it.
How Far Along Is It?
The game is scheduled for release this summer with an expected price point between $15 to $20. The download size of the game will be around 350MB
What Needs Improvement
Unlike previous Battlefield games, Pacific only has three unit classes: Infantry, Riflemen, and Scout. Gone are the Medics and Heavy weapons classes. Van dyke explained they wanted every class to be able to fight in every situation. Every class has weapons to fight against the biggest tanks and armor. I would like to have seen more classes with varied abilities and risks.
Also, players have auto-health and unlimited ammo. I find auto-health to be too simple and easy and unlimited ammo means players will be firing without thinking. That will probably mean no more knife fights.
What Should Stay The Same
The destructible environments were a breath of fresh air for me. As someone who played a ton of the original 1942, nothing was more infuriating that driving into a tree and getting stuck. Now, I can run them all over and blow chunks of buildings away. Van Dyke said the game has about the same amount of destruction depth as Bad Company.
I also liked the upgraded graphics. While the original 1942 was fine graphically, 1943 Pacific adds more detail, physics, shadowing, and overall effects. It's very clean looking and stays true to the original maps.
Final Thoughts
I really had no idea what to expect from this game. I was presently surprised to see my favorite online game ever get a much-needed upgrade. The one concern I have is that this won't seem like a completely new, full Battlefield game. There won't be as many maps in the final game and the focus on casual play has me worried. Van Dyke wouldn't specify, but he said if this Battlefield gets a good reaction from fans, Dice might consider adding more and more content down the road.

Re: EA brings Battlefield 1943 and Battlefield Bad Company 2 to the PC
They look at it from a business viewpoint. The hard core BF gamers are a small percentage of the population. If they could make something that caters to the larger percentage, then they make more money. This is the rationale for the direction they are following. Sucks for us real gamers but they don't care about the small percentage, just the big percentage, and the big percentage doesn't know any better.

Re: EA brings Battlefield 1943 and Battlefield Bad Company 2 to the PC
I understand they look at it from a business point of view. Everyone does that, even mods to see who their target audience is.
I just flat out disagree with their decisions. Look at Heroes for example. It is totally made for the "casual" gamer. It is about as dumbed down as it gets. However there is almost no buzz about it and the project has come close to being canceled multiple times.
Then look at the most popular games out right now. World of Warcraft, Counter Strike, Call of Duty. While each is not super realistic by any means they offer players depth in a challenging and rewarding environment for mastering them. If Dice built games for the MAIN gamers out there and tapped into those mega numbers, they would get 100x the return on their investment. Instead they keep dumbing things down and wonder why nobody is playing their new games.
Gamers (In my opinion) are not looking for a game that ANYONE can play but rather something special that they can dig into and develope with. Dice and EA just do not get that and it looks like they never will. As a long time Battlefield 1942 fan, this is just absolutly devistating to me and I just hope another team will come along and show us how it is done, much like mods have. IMO mods like PR, PoE, OPK, FH, FS, and others have been doing a better job with no budget and a staff that works on their spare time.Battlefield Samurai 'Banzaaaiii!!!
