Re: Women Drivers
In every single accident i've seen just walking along the road or on the bus all of them except one were caused by a woman, the only one that wasnt caused by a woman was when I was on a bus and the driver hit a parked trucks side mirror on a bend in the road, it was one of those double buses (extra long ones).

Re: Women Drivers
Hahahhahah brings back some excellent memories from this time last year! I did John Hauglands Winter Rally School for a week then heading to the Swedish WRC round the following week!
Slightly off topic but....
On the journey up North in Norway in Jan of last year, on poper ice roads and snow at dusk, this Elk decides to jump out of the side trees and onto the road. I didnt have the proper ice wheels and tyres with spikes on at this stage, so was just running winter tyres, but Ihad the full lamp pod on and there stood in front of me was a young elk with the fear of god look in its eyes as I am ever so gently squeezing the brakes, before giving the handbrake a quick tug to go left then right, by which time the elk is in full "cartoon" mode and scrambling to get away with hooves spinning, but eventually he gets moving just as I get my car slowed enough...but I still hit him on the butt!!!
I stop the car, get out...the elk has run off, but my brand new Lamp Pod now had a crack in the right side of it and a small tuft of hair!!!! in the right lamp securing hexy bolt! lol
When I arrived at the centre some two hours later we were laughing at the likely discussion that the Elk was having with his fellow antler wearing beasts!..."Yeah......my life flashed before my eyes in a blinding white light ...but I just managed to get away..but look...see that missing patch of fur......Not some crappy Volvo.......Escort Cosworth.....NICE!!!!!!"
But back to the point of women drivers....in general I agree with Mikko on this. One of the best drivers I have ever had the pleasure to chat with, is Michelle Mouton, not only one of the best Rally Drivers the world has seen...but a woman too! Would have been World Champion for sure had her father not died just before her last event of the season (Ivory Coast Rally) and her mind (understandably) just was not in it and she had several off road incidents and lost the championship as a result. Great shame. She later established the "Race of Champions" and is still a world class driver. Something miss Danica Patrick...is not.

Unfortunately I did not do any further events last year and will now focus my attention toward GT racing here in the States....but not till the economy is considerably better!!
So if you know anyone wanting to buy a full Rally spec Escort Cosworth Group N/A let me know!

Re: Women Drivers
My favorite famale driver story is a follows:
About a year and a half ago, I was working at a Best Buy store in Scottsdale, AZ. A bunch of us were hanging out by the front door waiting to loa a big TV into a truck when this beautiful silver Lamborghini Gallardo parked in front of the store and a short Brunette got out. A bunch of the guys started talking a bunch of #^%$ about how she couldn't drive that car and that she should give it to them. I held my tongue. Everybody's jaws dropped to the floor as Danica Patrick walked into the store. It was totally awesome because I was the only dude there who didn't make an ass out of himself.

Re: Women Drivers
LMAO...hell I would have walked up to her and told her she couldnt drive that car!
followed by a challenge to a few laps around the car park! lol j/k
One of the most overated female drivers of all time, that has gotten most of her attention through her looks rather than her ability. Time and time again she has caused accidents on the tracks and she throws hissy fit tantrums shoving and pushing guys around in the paddock because she knows she can get away with it. It will be an interesting day when she goes to someone's pit and starts hitting them only to get landed back on her backside by someone not prepared to take her nonsense.
She has had a top car for the last couple of years and still cannot make it. I am all for women drivers in motorsport as to me personally I dont care if someone is male or female behind the wheel. Can they compete? Is the only question that matters and therefore playing off your sex should never be used for anything. Pronstars excluded!!!
Stick her on the dirt and lets see how good she is!
Yes sir! 300BHP, 6 speed R&D Dog Gears Box, 0-60 in roughly 3.5 seconds, Proflex suspension, hydraulic handbrake, 6 Pot Group A Tarmac brakes roughly 15 inches in diametre in Tarmac set up, that will stop hard enough to throw you against your harness! = HUGE FUN!
I have an onboard camera system and will throw up a vid from one of the stages in Norway....a couple of times we were 5th gear through the trees on the snow and ice at just over 100mph... when the car steps out...you need to grab it quickly!....

You never cease to amaze me, Blackdog. To me, rally racing is the ultimate show of true driving skill. BTW, your car(s) rock. I'm also a huge fan of your Porsche.

Re: Women Drivers
The majority of accidents are caused by young teenage males. From what I remember, the insurance rates for males tend to be higher than women across the board, regardless of age, so, well, clearly the people who make money off of the accidents seem to think that women are better drivers.

Re: Women Drivers
Yeah I think in the past, young males have traditionally driven a bit faster, more wreckless etc. However I have noticed that more and more now, it's young women who are racing around. Most of which are driving not very fast cars, yet they seem to think they are driving a Lambo or something.
I think the primary difference between males and females is that males traditionally enjoy driving as an activity, whereas women traditionally see driving as a means to get from A to B. As to accidents, this all comes down to brain function and believe that it has been proven that the male brain works differently to the female brain and as such the brain reacts to and considers the surrounding environment differently.
This may be why it seems that female drivers are not as aware of their surroundings as male drivers? Possibly!
Hehehe thank you mate, rallying is huge fun, I have been a comp driver since 1995 and had a ton of fun! If you ever get the chance, go do a rally course somewhere, you will really enjoy it!BlackDog1

Re: Women Drivers
Cool and very surprising with that Swedish rally, Blackdog. If you crave inexpensive rallying, try the hardcore to the bones rally sim "Richard Burns Rally" with a high end wheel, like a Logitech G25.
Back to driving: Males tend to be more interested, knowledgable, technically skilled, and make some seriously bad risk taking decisions. The ladies wisdom more than makes up for it, obviously. Could also be regional and cultural differences: everyone here is forced to take some really thorough testing, and it usually takes one year (or more, like in my case) to train yourself up to the level required to pass all the tests and get that license. That means the ladies here might be much more knowledgable than ladies in USA, for example.
Btw, insurance rates are really cheap in sweden, even for young people. I compared once years ago and it was several magnitudes more expensive for americans. Especially young ones. I've known and talked to many people in Texas, for example, who were awarded a drivers license after spending a TOTAL of 2 hours in the drivers seats of cars. That's really like no training at all.

Re: Women Drivers
Basically, yes. People here suck at driving and we shut everything down when it snows.
My dad's girlfriend has gotten in 3 wrecks since I've known her and my father always backs her up saying that it was bad circumstances but thats BS, everytime I've ridden in a car with her she drives like a maniac. I used to ride my bike everywhere (and I still walk almost everywhere) so I'm well aware of how many drivers feel that they are the only important person on the road and the only person that is in a hurry. I like to think that I'm quite a careful driver.

Re: Women Drivers
You speak the truth. I agree that drivers here are poorly trained, and I really wish that someday we have the same standards that the Swedish have. One of my biggest pet peeves here is the sad state of blinker usage. So many people don't bother ever using them. It seems that SUV and truck drivers are the worst offenders of this. It seems that so many SUV drivers (ESPECIALLY WOMEN) are completely oblivious to their surroundings when driving one of these behemoths. I noticed this the most when I rode a motorcycle as a daily driver. Thank god I never got hit, but honestly riding made a better car driver. I'm SO much more aware now. Having a fast car helps a lot too. My CTS-V always ensures I'm at the front of the line. I'm a very aggressive driver. Motorcycle riding taught me to be this way. I act like everyone is out to hit me, and so far so good. I've NEVER been in a wreck. knock on wood...
And also, I'd LOVE to take a rally course. Anyone know if there are any in Texas? Also, does anyone know a good track in Texas for me to put the ole' Caddy to some good use? Hey Blackdog, maybe someday I should come visit you in San Fran for some driving lessons to teach me how to REALLY drive! Do you teach courses or know of a good place?"Common sense is not so common." -Voltaire

Re: Women Drivers
Well, I dunno. Here in Norway the demands are very high to pass the test, and the average license cost over $3500 USD to take in 2007. Still, I keep meeting people who obviously should not be behind the wheel of a motor vehicle.

Re: Women Drivers
I think with today's day in age also, women seem to drive crappier cars. This means that insurance companies wont have to foot the bill as much with them as they would with men of the same age.
When I say crappier... I mean more economical. :P Women seem to drive vehicles that make sense while men drive sportier flashier cars that cost an arm and a leg. Therefore I think regardless of who ends up being at fault (and you'd be surprised at how many accidents end with no at fault driver), men will always pay more for insurance."They laugh at the law... but they don't laugh at me."
