Re: The next graphical juggernaut to rival Crysis

In my opinion, the original FEAR is what gaming companies should shoot for in the combination of graphics and gameplay. The graphics in that title were a shade below cutting edge for the time it was released, and they sacrificed nothing in gameplay to get them there.

Crysis is a perfect example of gameplay being sacrificed for graphics, nobody would dispute crysis has great graphics, but at what cost to gameplay did we get those graphics. I've never heard the crysis SP storyline described as "engrossing" or "compelling" or even "well done".

The best games are ones where the graphics are "souped up" as much as possible with the engine, but in such a fashion that it doesnt limit your customer base or detract from the gameplay in the least. Gameplay sells, graphics do not.

It's funny you say this. My roommate and I keep arguing over which is better. I LOVE BF2 on PC and he loves CoD on the PS3. I give him such a hard time. I'll be like, "Why don't you grab that jeep over there. What's that? You can't drive any vehicle you see? I'm sssooooo sorry to hear that. Why don't you go outside that fence over there? What's that? That's the map's boundary? Oh. My bad. I'm sorry your map is so teeny tiny. How come there's only 16 players? What's that? You don't have 64 player mayhem? I'm sorry. I thought you did. My bad."

    He get's SO pissed. Hahaha.

The problem is that we are at most, a generation and a half from full realistic graphics, all the time.

Once that barrier is broken, graphics won't matter. Everything looks good, and so little plays well. Game Developers need to back off from pushing graphical engines as a selling point and work on new gameplay elements and make games entertaining, not just so pretty you want to have your monitor framed.

    Also, Crysis v Real Life.

BF3 is a good game, and when they finish it, it may even be a great game.
