Why would you speculate that a successful war against the US armed forces would result in an analogous situation with the current war in Iraq? Use your mind. Think more creatively. Not all invasions are of the sort and for the reasons the US invades. Suppose you were leader of an invading country and your forces disposed of the US military, what would you do next? Would you really treat the campaign like the war in Iraq, but on a larger scale?

Though to be fair, if this invading country actually did use enough force to dispose of the entire U.S. military there would probably be nothing resembling civilization remaining on the western side of the planet.

    Re: Another US Civil war?

It's very unlikely the U.S. will be invaded in a traditional manner. Ever since the threat of thermo-nuclear warfare, the game has changed. It's more likely we are soon reaching a point where China decides not to lend our government anymore money (at their own peril, since 2 trillion of their investments are in U.S. dollars, since we still have the privilege of having the worlds reserve currency). The world still has an interest in keeping America stable for the time being. If China does recall our loans, the country will go bankrupt. We have essentially been running on fumes and the mercy of Chinese lending for some time now.

If we do go bankrupt, our military empire around the globe will collapse, and our businesses will be foreign owned and our natural resources exploited with most of the profits going to other countries. We are probably going to be getting a reality check soon and it won't be so nice.

If we had ordinary people that spent responsibly, and leadership with better foresight at the end of the cold war up till now things could have been much different. Instead of trying to dominate the world, we should have become leaner with our military commitments and work on paying off our debt before it got out of control. Thanks to Bush and our foreign policy over the past few decades we're entangled in 2 long wars fought almost entirely on credit, and with no immediate end in sight.

America is hurting right now but it is generally hurting much less than the rest of the world.

China has never been expansionist and it still isn't. It's navy is totally defensive. And it would gain nothing from American collapse. It has manufacturing but not much in terms of developing new products to manufacture.

And Europe, no matter how much it complains, knows it is dependent on Americas military to keep things calm. It just got pissed during the last eight years and cowboy Bush.

All this talk is kinda silly.

    Bring it on, Russia...

I'd like to see how far any tank, air craft, or troop movement gets with F-22's in the air...

there is no way at all that there is going to be a revolution, or a civil war, or for that matter the united states being invaded..........and if it were to happen, i will bet my life that nuclear weapons would be the first things fired.

But it ain't going to happen, those russians need to lay off the vodka, alcoholism runs rampant in that country as it is, and it looks like this professor had too many swigs from the bottle.

I think I might know the purpose of that map; It potentially could be what happens to our country if we go bankrupt.

You don't have to worry about Oakland. It's doing a pretty good job of nuking itself.

[RANT]Anywho, the previous mention that Germany was defeated by a great numbers of inferior tanks made by Americans is true, but the Soviet's case is not. The T-34 tank of WWII was considered to be one of the finest tanks in the world, which was a shocker to the Germans.[/RANT]

Nuclear warfare is the major problem when it comes to both civil war and global war. If our country falls in on itself, what will happen to the nukes sitting inside the silos and who's finger will be on the button in the end?

If the government just shuts down due to bankruptcy, I'd imagine the president would still be authorized to secure and use nukes. If there was a coup and leadership was taken out, the military would probably declare martial law in D.C. to restore order. It's unfathomable that there isn't a contingency plan to secure the nukes in case there was some sort of collapse, especially after all the preparations made during the cold war.

Of course there are contingency plans. Lower echelon commanders take charge our nuclear stockpile to protect them.
