    New Movie: The Hurt Locker

So I was checking out trailers for new movies, and saw this:

    The Hurt Locker

    Official description:

"a riveting and suspenseful portrait of the elite members of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) squad, soldiers who volunteer to challenge the odds and save lives in one of the world’s most dangerous jobs. Three EOD members battle insurgents and each other as they seek out and disarm deadly bombs in a thrilling race against time"

From the trailer it looks really good, and realistic..............

    Says out in June.

I'm not sure if i posted about this movie a while back, but i will definitely be going to see it when it comes to theaters even though i already saw a bootlegged copy, and plus it is from the director of point break, but does not comprise of anything in relation to it.

Plus there are many great actors in this movie, definitely worth watching!

I watched it. I really enjoyed it. There was a lot of feedback on forums online about how it depicted US EOD specialists as unprofessional, reckless and renegade.

    Well. It's a movie.

And the main character was all those things.

    It pretty much kicked butt.

If you enjoyed this movie I suggest reading "Eight Lives down" it is a great book about a British EOD team in Iraq. I can't take the credit for the suggestion, all of that goes to Ristin for suggesting it to me.

I'm so happy it won the awards that it did! Well deserved. Also goes to show what a non-studio produced film is capable of! I really really liked this movie a lot. Talk about a David & Goliath moment at the Oscars! Giant box-office smash hit Avatar versus indie low budget film The Hurt Locker. What makes it even funnier is that Kathryn Bigelow is James Cameron's ex-wife! Wow. It's also cool noting that she's the first woman to win Best Director. What a great night at the Oscars. Bravo.

Rolled my eyes so hard when I watched the first 30 minutes or so that they fell out of my sockets and hit the "stop" button on my Blu-Ray's remote. Being low budget doesn't mean you have to put your characters in ridiculous situations that have no bearing on how the military actually goes about its business.

I love how the movie's time period was 2004, yet they're playing Gears Of War (Released in '06) on a 360 (released in '05). Overall though, entertaining movie.

I can't believe it won all those Oscars.
If you have never seen a YouTube video of Iraq and all you know about the military is what you have seen in the movies, then this might rate an "OK".
But barring those qualifications this movie was utter and total shyt.

Well, an accurate depiction of a professional, well-mannered, by-the-book EOD guy wouldn't have been very entertaining. You gotta accept some Hollywood BS with any motion picture for entertainment purposes, especially military ones. I thought it was a good flick myself.

Re: New Movie: The Hurt Locker

It is somewhat based on the screenplay writer's experience while embedded with an US EOD team in Baghdad when it was still considered the "Wild West" - Mark Boal is the screenplay writer.

Re: New Movie: The Hurt Locker

Right. It takes place in 2004. IED's presented a whole new ball game, and set methods hadn't quite been established yet. Some soldiers were more methodical and careful, and some were indeed more balls to the wall. It took a while before EOD teams came up with a more consistent method of going about their business. I spent this past New Year's Eve with a bomb tech who had been medically retired from being blown up in Iraq. Amazing to talk to. He said that even with the typical embellishments and creative liberties, the movie was an overall good representation of the early days in the war in Iraq.

Great movie, not Oscar Gold to me. But good flick.

I dont think any of the actors played well outside their range or did anything remarkable. I was hopping for Bastards to take home more gold.
