311
I stumbled onto them in '94 at a random show at the Clark University Pub (Worcester, MA)... which couldn't have held more than about 100 people... Since then, we've caught them just about everytime they've come around. The last show we hit had English Beat [meh] and Matishayu [amazing live]... This year it looks like ziggy marley's with em.. we're going to the 6/28 show...
anyone else getting tickets for this summer's tour?

Re: 311
I was planning on heading to Cheech & Chong concert that is gonna be in AC this summer.
Never heard of 311, though. Sorry to be a little off-topic as well.

Re: 311
They're really, really good. Very eclectic music... funk, reggae, punk, rock, hiphop influences... They have a pretty grassroots fanbase from all the touring. (The live show is amazing)
A few examples... but there are many on youtube...

Re: 311
I LOVE 311!
Easily one of my Top 5 favorite bands. I only went to one of their concerts in Pensacola FL and it was the best concert I have ever been to.
I got so many girls with this song:

Re: 311
It's amazing how some bands are pretty ok on album but really shine live. I have 2 Matisyahu albums and the studio one has a couple good songs, but everything on the live album is just great.
I don't have any 311 but sounds like they're in the genre of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones or Against All Authority, maybe a little less ska?
They're playing Chicago June 14, I might have to check that out.
Oh, and Dirtboy your chick song is a cover. Not that it matters, and maybe you already knew that. Sounds pretty good.|TG-12th| Boot

Re: 311
yeah, live at stubbs is amazing. actually, he was amazing live last summer w/ 311 - he came out towards the end of their set and freestyled over a couple of their songs... delicious AND nutritious!
uhhhh... kinda... it's got more dub and funk roots.. but I suppose they all have guitars on the upbeat... and they've got a lot of songs with similar frameworks - hard, driving sections, offset with more mellow choruses (or vicaversa).I don't have any 311 but sounds like they're in the genre of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones or Against All Authority, maybe a little less ska?
You should definitely make an excuse to get there. Or if you and dirtboy happen to have business trips to boston sometime around June 24th...They're playing Chicago June 14, I might have to check that out.
Actually, they released a double-DVD of a "3-11 Day" show they put on back in 2004 (source of youtube clips above). If you wanna get a feel for them, that's probably the best place to start... good mix of music and it's all live. (Although TBH, their studio stuff and live stuff sound REALLY similar)

Seen 311 at red rocks 3 times. Was there when they filmed the DVD and made the red rocks album. Massive.
Oh yeah, and I've seen them 5 other times at various concerts/festivals other places.

Re: 311
You're right, that is a better cover. But let's be very clear about your other comment.
Objective: Getting Dirtboy chicks.
Strategy: Whatever it takes.
Tactical Options:- Music mix including 311 cover of The Clash = Fail.
- Music mix including 311 cover of The Cure = Success.
- Music mix including any other Clash = Fail.
- Music mix including any other Cure = Success.
- Become Joe Strummer = Boioioing!
- Become Robert Smith = You're lookin' for dudes now.

EDIT: Oh, and Pandora seems to think 311 matches best with Bob Marley, Sublime and The Red Hot Chili Peppers.Last edited by Boot; 05-12-2009 at 01:29 PM. Reason: Pandora speaks.
