My handwriting is attrocious, for this reason I use print even when signing a check. and even then it looks like a 9 year old wrote it. Writing is not my forte, Reading comprehension is for some reason.

I have to write very slow in order for it to be legible with cursive. My muscle memory is isn't what it used to be thanks to the keyboard. So cursive and non cursive is about the same speed.

It's sad when I can type and spell better on the computer, It just comes more natural after all these years. I also have terrible writing (left handed). So when I do write, its mostly in print, which may be illegible to most people, even myself lol. I use to write model and serial numbers down for the appliances I worked on, when I went back later to read them, I was like damn, is that a 5 or a 7?

I never use joined-up writing, I gave it up as soon as I left primary school. I find it just as quick to form individual letters, and it's far neater than my joined-up handwriting. If I ever need to write something neatly (e.g. a letter), I use cursive, but it takes ages, so I generally stick to printed letters unless it's something really important.
Overall, no, personally I find that it's not worth it.

Anything other than a signature I print in capital letters. While I have no done many plans by hand in a while, it just comes as second nature. My cursive is terrible if done at any speed, I do however remember how every letter is formed.

My hand writing is some bastard hybrid of cursive and manuscript. Since I would never voluntarily write anything longer than a few lines, I'd rather they teach Typing, but I suppose it might have some uses, somewhere. Maybe they could spend the time teaching kids Sign Language, Spanish, and latin word roots. They'd get more value for those.

YES! I do much of my work long-hand cursive before I type it up. I find that writing things down on paper keeps my atrocious spelling and grammar in check and greatly improves my composition. I was schooled to use cursive only and have never used print. I think cursive adds a little class when used in correspondence, but who writes letter anymore?

    Re: Penmenship: worth it?

Learned cursive in 3rd grade, used it until high school. I make too many mistakes while writing and find it easier to erase and rewrite print letters than cursive. My writing in print is also more legible to others. Also, writing code in cursive just looked kind of stupid IMHO :P

My parents tried teaching me how to write Chinese in cursive script. That was a massive failure. If you think it's hard to read cursive Latin letters, Chinese cursive characters look like nothing more than scribbles

    Re: Penmenship: worth it?

My son's class was working on improving their penmanship this year and I realized that I hadn't used cursive since early high school. Even my signature is a hybrid of printed letters and cursive (not that you can read it...).

I believe that teaching touch-typing would be much more practical.

On a side note, in 6th grade my teacher taught us how to write with a calligraphy pen. I use this whenever I want it to look nice, like a name on an envelope, or invitations or whatever...

In 5th grade I was called to the principal's office because I couldn't write in cursive. I told him that I could, but that it was too slow so I liked writing in regular style. He said ok, and that's the last I thought about it.

Incidentally, the tooth fairy and Santa Claus both seem to write in a cursive script that probably looks like mine would, if I ever wrote in it.

I honestly find cursive a bit silly....its all just loopy, another reason for people to tell you you did it wrong, BECAUSE EVERYONE DOES IT DIFFERENTLY!

For me, I would just like to see people use proper grammar and to start cutting out leet from everyday writing. Writing style afterwards is secondary.

    QFT!

I tend to write in a scribbled cursive, but it isn't intentional. It's simply the way I drag the pen across the page.
