Re: Penmenship: worth it?

Well, I just looked closely at something I wrote fairly recently, and it turns out that I join letters together in groups of 2 or 3.
It looks incredibly silly

Re: Penmenship: worth it?

Cursive is a pain to read. In the workplace, it leaves a lot of room for errors. I work for a large hospital group doing electronic documentation and one of the big reasons for going to this system is to help organize data in an easy to read format which includes getting rid of the handwriting factor.

I am sure there is some value in teaching it still but not as much time as was spent on it back in my day. I would rather see them fill the space with more History, Math, or Economics.

If you look at the Wikipedia link I posted earlier, you'll see that it used to be THE way to write in business, because it was more readable. That's why training was so critical. You had to learn how to do it the right way for it to be useful in business communications. With typography handled by computers, you now see a similar emphasis on the next most important aspect of readability, grammar and spelling. If you send me a resume with grammar and spelling errors, it goes on the slush pile. Before computers and typewriters, the same would be the case with poor penmanship.
