Re: NeoTokyo Mod (HalfLife2)

I've been playing it nonstop for a while, and while I'm able to do decently most rounds, I still end up getting my arse handed to me alot. The learning curve is brutal, but after a while, it gets easier. If you're having trouble and dying continually, here's a few tips-

1. Don't know the map? Next time you die, roam throughout the map- watch for where the points of contention are, the routes through the map, and where people tend to camp.

2. The recon vision is useless at the moment- the only map it really has any use on is on nt_transit. Stick to optics.

3. The assault vision is best used for when you're camping an area and watching for moving targets. When stealthily moving in/assaulting an entrenched position, or searching for targets, turn it off. The lack of illumination for stationary targets usually causes you to scan over an enemy in plain view.

4. The support is a tank. His armor is meters thick, and he takes a while to die. Aim for the head, and as cliched as that sounds, that's the only real option.

5. The semi automatic rifle (M14) is super accurate on the first round, but it's accuracy decreases subsequently. Fire one round at a time when sniping, but when you're up close and personal, aim and fire as fast as you can.

6. Practice shooting without a crosshair/from the hip. Many times I've been in a situation where shooting from the hip was my only option. AFAIK, the gun's accuracy is the same scoped or no scoped.

7. The cloak's timer is short, and you have to plan around that. 14 seconds is not a lot of time, and 8 seconds is even shorter. Running out of cloak in the middle of a flanking maneuver is usually automatic death.

8. The ghost is key to victory. You get more points for extracting it, and a good ghost caller often means death for the enemy team. Learn to judge how far enemies are based on the ghost. The basic report is like this: # of contacts-direction-distance-elevation (Floor above us, same floor as we are, below us). Take note if the distance between you and the contact is closing- 20 meters and lower means that they're within killing distance.

9. For god's sake, don't run in front of your teammates line of fire, and do NOT throw smoke in front of them if they are not support. It's rude, annoying, and it will get the BOTH of you killed if there is more than one support.

10. Protect the ghost carrier. Always make sure that there is one person watching his back.

11. The lean feature is a bit buggy, you have to step back a smidgen from a wall or object if you want to lean.

12. Watch your frag grenades. The grenade physics are a bit buggy, and I've seen many times where a frag grenade has killed 4 teammates. The only thing more dangerous than an enemy is your teammate.

13. Always let someone enter a hostile area before you do.

Major information dump, but these tips have helped me a lot.

Just played it and its almost nothing like CSS... I dont understand your viewpoint

CSS is bombsites, terrorists, cts, hostages, buying your gear...

This is capture the ghost, choosing classes, different guns for every class

Sure its a little bit of RNG in both, but most games have that.

As I read - Support has NO headshot modifier ! thick armor everywhere!

Another tip:

14. Always check the text at the lower right before you toss a Grenade! You might have picked up another Grenade from a dead body. I have seen Supports killing themself when trying to throw smoke - and assaults toss smoke when they wanted to throw a frag

It's kind of like a crossover between CSS and CoD4. Skills in CSS undeniably help in this. But it's a very good game, even in pubs the gameplay is tactical and there's lots of communication.

Re: NeoTokyo Mod (HalfLife2)

How to install it completely for free:

To install the game itself you need the "source sdk base". You can get that for free in free bundles which steam offers to ati/nvidia customers via the steam client here:

http://www.steampowered.com/nvidia/
http://www.steampowered.com/ati_offer1a/

After that you run the Neotokyo installer and you should be good to go.
