Direct TV Internet?

I am currently in the market for a new ISP, but since COX is the only cable ISP in Vegas, I am limited. Has anyone dealt with DirectTV internet before? Or any satellite internet for that matter.

Re: Direct TV Internet?

I would expect a 500 ms or higher ping just from the satellite connection alone. On all three of the satellite ISPs I have used at friends/relatives that was the minimum. Radio waves just take a while to get up into space and back

Re: Direct TV Internet?

I had a friend who was testing Satellite internet WAY back when it was first rolling out. It worked fine in the golden days of Diablo 2 but I don't think it was any faster than DSL in total bandwidth. I doubt it'd be good for gaming now a days.

Directv bundles with Qwest and/or WildBlue depending on location for their internet services. They are not an ISP themselves.

Re: Direct TV Internet?

I called them and they said that Embark would be the DSL ISP. Anyone have any problems with them?

Wait, is it DSL or is it satellite?

The Company is Satellite, but they go through Embark for internet. I believe that they are DSL.

http://www.embarq.com/

Looks like they sell a "bundle" involving Dish Network for TV and ADSL for Internet access. So it's not satellite Internet.

Re: Direct TV Internet?

Direct tv bundles with a dsl isp provider, it is NOT sattellite internet. Where I live its with Qwest and I only had 1500 down and 750 up. As far as I know Hughes net is the only sattelite provider and very expensive.

Re: Direct TV Internet?

So this is just DSL being resold by a TV provider, not DirecPC, Internet over satellite. In which case, identify the DSL provider and look at their reputation. The bundler is irrelevant.
