Re: Every City has a "word"!
Ah, yes, been through Dubois a number of times on my way to philly. That whole area sucks. Especially when people find out that it's close to punxsy and people ask "well, didnt you get to go see the groundhog?" Yeah, I saw it. It's 5 minutes out of the year and the weather was miserable, which is normal for that time of year. My hat is off to you for survivng two years in western PA. I really do think its equal to being in at least the 7th circle of hell. We're lucky we got out.

Re: Every City has a "word"!
I know what ya mean. I spent some time in the LBC when I was stuck there on a random AF mission long ago. After hearing all the rap songs and such, I was surprised with how nice it was. They had a really nice movie theatre, a great mall, and the hood wasn't near shabby as some of the places I've lived before. Maybe it's come really far in the last 20 years.

Re: Every City has a "word"!
I'm not a people person, so I don't relate places to how the people are. So for San Francisco (where I was born and now live across the bay from): Hills. In fact, I've seen it suggested that San Francisco is Spanish for "my clutch just burned out".
Due to the topography, every hill has a different weather system, so you have to carry lots of clothes to put on and take off as you hike around to deal with that. I've heard it referred to as "taking a tour of the weather". But I don't know one word that can express that.Dude, seriously, WHAT handkerchief?

Oakland: grey
Some might associate the city with crime. If you drive along I-880, "squalid" might be a good description, with all the rusting industry there. Along the hills, one sees unending suburbs, mostly upper middle class. Downtown is skyscrapers. But the overwhelming feeling I get about all of it is that it's depressingly dull and colorless.Dude, seriously, WHAT handkerchief?

Silicon Valley (a patchwork of cities): congestion
I never want to drive there, even though it's only 45 minutes away and has some of the greatest tech shopping in the world. The freeways are narrow and there's tons of people coming and going. Housing is very expensive so many/most must commute to work there.Dude, seriously, WHAT handkerchief?

Seattle: wet
Okay, cheap shot, as it's been mostly clear when I've visted. But it's a sea port, there's a big lake there and I loved visiting the fish ladders at the locks in the canal, so I still associate it with lots of water.Dude, seriously, WHAT handkerchief?
