Re: District 9
Saw the movie today. I really liked it. Didn't feel cliche. Initially disliked the main character (the human one), but he eventually grew on me.

Re: District 9
The trailers look awesome. It seems to have a slight bit of camp to it, which makes it look so much better.

Re: District 9
Saw the movie, they did do a good job of avoiding cliches. It kept all my friends, who usually are the people in the audience who talk, silent throughout the entire film.
Some sections made me clap out of surprise and how well done the effects are.Former Cutthroat, established Merc.

Re: District 9
A must see. I thought of what to write but didn't want to hype expectations. It is not an all out action movie. The entire theater left in silence and not because it sucked. You were just that involved and disoriented by the end of this film. If you had any doubts I'd tell you to take them with you into the theater, I did and it made it that much better.
Also this is a movie that seems to be made out of a video game story line (not an actual game just the premiss and type of story arc). So its definately a ground breaking story for this medium. The story is an epic one like Half Life or Bioshock.

Re: District 9
Just so you guys know, the scenes from the trailer are not in the movie. You know, the "How do your weapons work" scene. The director did that intentionally.

Re: District 9
district 8 is supposed to be the console game that goes along with this movie right?
btw, is it R for violence and language? is it overwhelming? some action movies just put it in just to get the rating... if it is needed, that's one thing... having a character drop the f-bomb 11 times in the first 2 minutes of screen time for his character is another.Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former. -Albert Einstein

Re: District 9
Language isn't excessive, no. There's gore, but not horror-movie gore, more action movie gore. Lots of bad guys get blown apart into goo and mist from the alien weapons.

Re: District 9
Yep. Liked it a whole lot. My only critique would be the slight jarring transitions between when Merwe goes from D9 to home, then to MNU, then back to D9. Also, how did Merwe and Christopher get to MNU headquarters undetected? Surely someone would've noticed Christopher walking around outside of D9. (Trying to not give away spoilers.)
Little critiques, overall really enjoyed the experience.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blah blah blah.
