Re: District 9
The wife and i saw this over the weekend. One of the best movies I've seen in the past few years if not the best. Ever better is that it has no star power in it at all. The most recognizable name is the director's. There wasn't a name in the cast that I recognized from another film or TV project.

He probably meant the producer.

Re: District 9
I finally saw it on Sat., and WOW it was awesome. The wife took forever to convince to see it, and aftwards we went to dinner and she was just like.....meah......it's just like every other alien political movie.
I was like what the hell. What other alien political (and what the hell is that?) movie is it like. Name one! And of course she couldn't.
As a side note, it was really weird watching it. I was in a pretty packed theater (I think the local Marine base just got paid), and it was weird how the whole audience kept laughing every time a human got hit with an alien weapon. Even the women kept laughing. Especially when the people like popped, or exploded. Just weird.

Re: District 9
I saw it last week, loved it! Cool story, and good action too.
I kinda can see the laughter in the alien lightning guns; its the lightning rifle from Quake! And it left a few guys with just their shoes on the floor.

Re: District 9
So when I asked the gal at the Tennispalatsi Finnkino if the movie was in English, she said yes. And it was. Except for the aliens. They were conveniently translated into Finnish and Swedish, which everyone in the theater appreciated... but me. I have no idea what they said. I'll have to catch it again on DVD just for that reason.
So I missed some nuance probably, but even so it was a great film. Mr. Jackson was already high in my book, and gets another point for overseeing such a rich, great piece.
I also wanted to get you guys a pic of the subway ad in Helsinki: they had signs posted that said "This seat reserved for humans" and the big crossed out alien... but it was so crowded that I couldn't get a clean shot. It worked though ... there were goth kids sitting there and it made me giggle a little, then go see the movie.|TG-12th| Boot

Re: District 9
I loved the movie. The sad thing is we as humans would probably treat another species like this, if given the chance. Wonderful movie, a must see!!

Re: District 9
Ah some of the US player base here in Finland, just watched the same movie in same theater
And yes they should have def noted you that there is no english subtitle for those parts. Really not cool, though I had no idea the aliens would ''talk'' in the movie in the first place :/
////and just in case someone who is reading this part and hasn't seen the movie, don't, minor spoilers + other spoiling material////
Brilliant movie all I can say. In general analysis I can tell that the stuff in it was either really well done, or it wasn't so deep as I thought. For instance the comedic type of start, where you review people and there is some minor jokes here and there. And then just mixing around in genres here and there, especially when the start gave me the appear that aliens are scum like, and that was rounded so well in mid way. And just how movies and genres rolled in-between worked very well whatever the case.
Shame that it really doesn't go unless you're into aliens / scifi in general, as in terms of a good movie, its just amazing.
Also funny was how they gave the impression of the main character to be the one who usually dies first in such movies as alien.
////Mixa's spoilers end here////
One of the many many things that was behind all the stuff in the movie. Generally many things from developing countries were put into the D9 area.

Re: District 9
One of the most realistic things about the movies was the Nigerian scammers that were hanging out in District 9 blatantly ripping off the prawns. If aliens ever land here, you KNOW the Nigerians would be all over that opportunity.

Unless the aliens have even better scammers.
Anyone remember the Harry Mudd episodes of the original Star Trek? I expect the first aliens to land on Earth will be hucksters looking for marks.Dude, seriously, WHAT handkerchief?
