Re: McDonalds launches new site exclusively for Blacks?
I agree with the message that african-americans should be celebrated 365 days a year for the great things they have done. But I think humans should be celebrated for their acheivements 365 days a year. I don't think their should be a website striclty for one race of people unless their is a special case, like for instance the internet had been around in the 60s and they had a website dedicated to the civil rights movement.

Re: McDonalds launches new site exclusively for Blacks?
I think I am goin to be sick. This is totally laughable, the only thing I celebrate 365 is life for all shapes sizes and color. This is just targeted commercialism, they should have stuck with helping sick kids. I boycotted MC D's a long time ago cause 90 percent of the people working there are complete idiots and the only thing they had going good was the fries. Shame, shame , shame. When will people ever wake up ?

Re: McDonalds launches new site exclusively for Blacks?
Holy *&#@ on toast! Do they even stop to consider how quickly the floodgates would open and the roaring torrent of cries of racism would swallow us all if McDonald's created a 365White.com site?
If we are all going to move away from racism, and get to a place where the color of someone's skin really doesn't factor into our collective mindsets any longer, then this kind of thing has to stop. The longer that it's continuously pointed out how different we are, the longer those differences are going to matter in some people's minds.
We all should obviously acknowledge and celebrate our ancestry, history, etc.. We do all come from different places, backgrounds, cultures, etc. and that's what makes us unique and a more interesting part of a great whole. But when a very large corporation creates a website to celebrate just a single race or nationality, and not any others, then to me it looks like a form of racism. Why isn't there a 365Hispanic site? Or 365Asian? Or for that matter 365White?
If racism is really ever going to completely be a thing of the past, we ALL have to look past the color of our skin.

I think it's fake too. Normally, McDonalds is very politically correct, so for them to say "black"365 and not "African-American"365 goes against their corporate nature.

I get those 2, but the 365 one is just funny. I guess white people just have to use the boring old regular site.

Re: McDonalds launches new site exclusively for Blacks?
ROFL... this is priceless. I think McD's advertising has been targeted towards minorities for about 10 years now, but this has upped the ante.
EDIT:
Apparently it's been around for a few years.
Black people can drink Anheuser-Busch beer, too! http://www.africanamericanbud.com/main.aspx
The example spoof ad on this page is tasteless, but funny: http://kissmyblackads.blogspot.com/2...365-black.html

Well this isn't a very good counterexample because the kind of racism we have here is asymmetrical between minorities and majorities - whether or not the site is appropriate. When you have an asymmetrical relationship things that may be ok for one side may not be for the other and things that aren't ok for one side may for the other and vice versa.

Re: McDonalds launches new site exclusively for Blacks?
You're exactly right sordavie. I was actually having a little bit of trouble drafting up my original post on this topic because of this asymmetrical relationship. I do understand and realize why a site like 365black.com doesn't cause red flags to be raised amongst a good chunk of the population and main stream media, whereas 365white.com would. I get it, but there's also the other part of my mind that is screaming at the top of it's lungs how wrong this site is.

Re: McDonalds launches new site exclusively for Blacks?
This seems condescending to me. "You're not white, so you need a special site." Then again, I grew up in California, which apparently is a bit more open-minded than the rest of the country on racial issues.
Hey, look what I found!

What other 365's exist?
It's inconceivable to me that skin color or other superficial genetic markers should make a difference in normal everyday relationships. Far more important to me are issues of culture and language. As some might say, it's what's on the inside that counts.

Re: McDonalds launches new site exclusively for Blacks?
I first remember seeing this in Black History Month of 2008. It's a laudable concept, I think. It's NOT "McDonald's Other Site For Black People"; it's an outreach effort.

Re: McDonalds launches new site exclusively for Blacks?
I remember Black history month in school. It started celebration in like Oct and ended in about late April but then again Blacks made up about 60% of my school. McD's also ran ads heavy in my area that were 100% geared towards blacks so it is not surprising they would do something so racist.
So many double standards when it comes to race. I agree with the others about 365White or a "White Caucus" or anything else like that would be rightly condemed just as we condem the KKK and other racists idiots.

Though what I always find interesting about that, is that even though gay isn't sometimes as visible as the color of your skin, "black" and "gay" are still both variably discriminated-against minorities
Though blacks obviously have far more rights than gays do...
