    2009 World Series

If anyone has not heard the NY Yankees were victorious last night against the Philadelphia Phillies! The Bronx Bombers won their 27th World Series title and also did it in the new stadium. The Yankees also achieved this feat many years ago when they won it in the first year the old stadium opened.

I don't want to gloat too much, because this isn't the place, but if there are any TG'ers in the NY Metro area who are going to attend, or should I say try and attend the Parade tomorrow Friday November 6th when it starts downtown at 11am please let me know, I plan on being down there and it would be great to celebrate this victory with some fellow TG'ers.

Eh, I'm sure if the Pirates had a 300 million dollar payroll they'd probably win the World Series too.

    Then again maybe not.

At least it wasn't the Mets.

The Yankees have (and deserve) an advantage to having a storied history of winning=more fans=higher tickets and merchandise profits=higher salary for their players. Everything management has done with regards to getting the players they want for their team is within the rules of Major League Baseball.

Maybe if the Pirates could get more than 1000 fans to attend their games they could sign some decent players, or even recruit some high school/college players..

Guess who also has high payrolls, Boston, LA, Philly, The Pittsburgh Penguins, etc etc, its a business, its not little league.

Both your arguements are wrong, last year the phillies had the 13 highest payroll at 99 mil, thats ave with 7 other team, the Rays went to the world series, with a 43 some odd mil payroll (3rd lowest in league), the last 8 years the yankees have had the highest payroll with this years at 201mil and only won one world series (2009) and the philles have a payroll of 113mil this year and lost, your logic is flawed.

Ok, so i was off, but baseball is still a business. It's not little league. The Pittsburgh Penguins are a NHL Hockey team, you won't find them in that link. The Pittsburgh Pirates are a MLB team.

Either way the "money comment" is as overused as madonna and kate hudson combined. So the Yankees are a profitable team, they should be held at fault because of it?

It's just a petty comment, I'm a fan of the team and the players, and what they do on the field, I may not like the red sox, but i'm not going to say "ooo the red sox paid this amount for this player or that amount for that player." Also most of the rings/championships which the Yankees have won didn't have anything to do with high salaries, so that comment is flawed anyways.

Anyways, no need to draw this out, I'm off to the parade, at least for a little bit, because to tell you the truth most of the people I saw going to the parade are the types of people I tend to stay away from on St. Patrick's Day, and New Years eve, but I am going otu to support the Yankees.

Exactly. The Yankees have consistently been able to throw large amounts of money at players. It makes it much harder for smaller market teams to compete with that. So the Yankees taking the World Series doesn't mean as much to me because of that.

Granted they have some great players, but no one else would be able to pay them.

As far the Penguins go, entirely different matter as there's a salary cap in the NHL.

If your going to quote me quote the whole thing, my point was just because they have money doesn't make them winners, and yes delta I agree but hockey has a salary cap, the yankees shouldn't be punished for making money, but small market teams should'nt be punished for being in a non-baseball area. Thats why its hard to be an exspansion team in baseball.

    Those damn Yankees.
Im a Cleveland fan as i live outside Cleveland. I found it funny that two of our pitchers started game one on different sides.
