Re: Server Downtime - Server Upgrade - Site Upgrade
I cant speak directly for Apo, but whenever theres any kind of upgrade done anywhere, theres always a chance that things disappear into the ether. So to everyone: if you have anything sensitive or important that you want saved, I highly recommend grabbing hard copies. For PMs, generally the easiest way I've found is to just screengrab important PMs and save them as pictures or PDFs (PDFs are nice because with the right plugins you can have it scan the document for text, which will allow you to copy/paste later on if you need to, rather than having to retype everything).
Just remember: better safe than sorry. We all know that Apo is the master of what he does, but even he cant control ghosts in the machine.

Very Cool

Your PM's can also be downloaded in CSV,XML, or Text format.
Thanks much for all your hard work Apophis

Re: Server Downtime - Server Upgrade - Site Upgrade
The PM system will be unaffected. I've already done trial migrations as part of my longer-term plan that I had before we were plagued with these server issues and the PMs came through fine. The only content lost during the test migrations was the blog content.

Re: Server Downtime - Server Upgrade - Site Upgrade
Thank you for all you do Apophis. Your like the CEO of a company that works his ass off but takes $1 a year pay because he believes in it's product and wants it to succeed.

After everything is switched you should take some time off and jump in for some game time. When was the last time that happened?
And with all the new power do you think we will be able to get the ribbon system working the way it used to?

Re: Server Downtime - Server Upgrade - Site Upgrade
The new server is all provisioned, patched and I have the database engine, web server and most of the other supplementary software installed.
I'm finalizing some of the back-end security and then I'll be ready to start migrating the site.
** WHEN THE SITE MIGRATION STARTS THE WEB SITE WILL GO OFFLINE UNTIL IT IS COMPLETED **
I'm going to throw up a maintenance page during this time, but nothing else will work properly until we're moved. Then the real fun begins. By fun, I mean a totally miserable pain in the arse experience that's going to keep me glued to my laptop for about 20 hours a day for the next two days....
GEH...
I only expect the site to be unavailable for about an hour or two before it is on the new server and functional. The design won't be there, but the site itself will actually function and you'll be able to go back to your web browsing enjoyment!
Expect to see things go offline around the 2030-2100 timeframe.

Re: Server Downtime - Server Upgrade - Site Upgrade
Apophis,
The links on the main forum index page (not the portal index) no longer work. They're all broken. Seems the conversion didn't go as smoothly as you had hoped (probably why it was only 12 minutes?).Acreo Aeneas
