Re: Server Downtime - Server Upgrade - Site Upgrade
Hey, man, Kudos for you putting the time and effort into this. I just went through a server migration for my domain which is more personal use but i know how much of a pain that it is. I certainly haven't done anything to the scale you're undertaking solo. If you need any help or just a sounding board feel free to ping me. i hope it goes smoothly and ends far sooner so you can get some rest before the end of the weekend!

Re: Server Downtime - Server Upgrade - Site Upgrade
Guys, keep in mind that this is the RAW site. No template, no theme, nothing. This is why Apo said he's going to be working on it 20 hours a day. I'm sure it will look a little different when all is said and done, but I'm fairly sure we'll be back to our standard green and gray.

Re: Server Downtime - Server Upgrade - Site Upgrade
This is weird (not the site):
On my gaming machine it still pulls up the old site, with the upgrade notice (in FireFox & MSIE)
I installed Chrome just now and the old site comes up.
On my linux machine in FireFox the new version comes up........

Re: Server Downtime - Server Upgrade - Site Upgrade
Get on your gaming machine, close ALL browser windows, open a command prompt and type "ipconfig /flushdns"
See if that helps.

Re: Server Downtime - Server Upgrade - Site Upgrade
Are both going through the same upstream DNS provider? Not only do you have to worry about your local cache but the cache of the machine whence you DNS comes. Almost every machine which answers DNS queries caches them. So if the machine you query for DNS pulled the IP of the old site right before Apo dropped the TTL flushing your local cache just means it'll query that DNS server and get the old IP again until the old TTL expires the entry.
So if one machine is getting the new site, the other the old and you flushed DNS on the one getting the old I'm willing to bet they are querying different DNS servers."...the rules aren't there to enumerate what is always correct but what is always wrong..."
