The Pacific
Looks like a great war history series. Should be interesting to see how it stacks up with Private Ryan and so on.

As Tom Hanks said on "The Colbert Report": "Any man between the ages of 21 and 50 who watches this will feel like a big fat pussy."
The Pacific campaign was a hellishly-vicious fight from start to end. Have an uncle who went through Guadalcanal who just doesn't talk about it.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blah blah blah.

Re: The Pacific
I'll be watching this. My grandfather (father's side, the other one was in Europe) was a specialist translator at Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. He was Chinese and fluent in Japanese and worked with intercepted transmissions.

Re: The Pacific
This looks really good. HBO Originals > Any Other Television
My great uncle was hit by a mortar round on one of the islands, not sure which one (maybe Iwo Jima). He never talked about it either. I'll definitely be watching this.

I've been waiting four years for this. I've already got it setup to record tonight.

Re: The Pacific
I've been looking forward to this for months... plugging it to all of my friends... should be epic. I also had a grandfather in the pacific, pearl harbor actually. took him over 60 years to start talking about it.

Re: The Pacific
I'll be watching when i can.
Had a Great Uncle who performed Spec Ops in China, not exactly The Pacific, but was still fighting the war against Japan in China. He was there as an "advisor" to the Chinese military/militia, teaching them how to fight against the Japanese. He survived 3 years in the place and survived the war. 2 days after the war ended, he was killed in a car crash. At his funeral, my grandma (his sister) refused to take the American flag because they didn't recognize him as a casualty of war and did not get any compensation.Former Cutthroat, established Merc.

Re: The Pacific
I finally caught a commercial for it today and almost cried. I love this stuff. I have so many books on WWII and movies and whatnot. This looks to be another great addition to that. It should also give some great in site to the fight and the men that fought. I cant wait and will be buying the DVDs as soon as they available

Re: The Pacific
I have been waiting for this for quite a while. I read both Helmet for my pillow by Robert Leckie and and With the old Breed by Eugene Sledge. Leckie's story is the one they are focusing on now - chronologically you have to do it that way. However imo, Sledge's book was way better.
Last night's episode was pretty good but it will take a few more episodes for this to really heat up as a narrative.
