Re: What book are you reading?
I'm now reading the 2nd book of a 3-part series. If you're a fan of mech-warrior games or Transformers, this is the series for you. The US fights a civil war on Mars against the Separatist faction, and a lot of the fighting is done with transfigurable fighters that can assume robot or tank form. This goes on in parallel with big naval battles involving space super carriers. The author is both a physicist and ex-military, so this is a "hard science fiction" series with both lots of tech and lots of action.
Author: Travis S. Taylor

Re: What book are you reading?
Been on holiday for the last couple of weeks so I had plenty of time for reading.
Finished Horizon Storms by Kevin J. Anderson. Part 3 of 7 in a space opera series, good but not exceptional.
Read Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder, it's a basic overview of some of the main philosophies since antiquity, told through a sort-of surreal mystery. Would recommend.
Read Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan (who's writing the story for Crysis 2). Cyberpunk detective story set around the 27th century (I think). Not for the faint-hearted - if it can be described graphically, it is described graphically. Pretty good.
Now I'm reading Neuromancer by William Gibson. More cyberpunk, a bit like a crossover between Ocean's Eleven and The Matrix - stealing information in cyberspace, etc.

Finished Neuromancer last night, about to start Catch 22 by Joseph Heller, because everyone in the world (read: in this thread) seems to have read it.

Night of the Living Trekkies
Love Star Trek or Star Wars? Love zombies? Love conventions? This book is for you. I'm most of the way through it and it's been a fun page-turner. Lots of references for the hard-core fans. For example, the chapter titles are all Trek episode titles from the different series.
