Re: when your life gets wiped out.....
thats what the bachup drive was..... a ghost image of the data drive..... weekly full backup, daily partials.... thats why I said even the most careful......
the only thing better would have been to put it on dvd, but I sold my dvd burner a month ago, waiting to get an internal for my laptop w/ refund money.....Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former. -Albert Einstein

Re: when your life gets wiped out.....
Try getting hold of these guys and sending in your drives. They are some of the best in the business, and the price is decent for the recovery.
http://www.ontrack.com/
I've used them for clients in the past that didn't have backups, and they are great. You always get to talk to a real person, and they give you a quote before they actually restore the data and charge you cash. Evaluation of the drives is less than $100 I think too....
Definately worth the cash if you need the data. That, and they are recognized by all HDD makers as warranty-valid repair techs, so they can open your drive physically and the warranty will still be good so you can return it after they send it back to you.

Re: when your life gets wiped out.....
i have used them.
I dont want to send out a working drive... but if it were physically dead......
actually, after I got back as much as I could, I also found a lot of deleted stuff from a LONG time ago, so I did a DOD level wipe of both drives. now I know I am starting clean.Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former. -Albert Einstein

Re: when your life gets wiped out.....
Oh man, there might have been more you could have done, but now you have to realign the heads to get anything back. I was going to suggest checking your slack space for fragments of anything that is left over. The best thing I have found to peek into slackspace is System Mechanic 5's data recover. Ontrack might work, but SpinRight from grc.com does much better when it comes to fixing corrupt drives than anything I have ever seen.
