Discussion: General Forums / General Discussion - when your life gets wiped out..... - well, I officially lost everything..... 80 gigs of movies - got nothing back 46 gigs

    when your life gets wiped out.....

    well, I officially lost everything.....

    80 gigs of movies - got nothing back
    46 gigs of mp3's - got 7.6 back
    30 gigs of recorded teaching - got nothing back
    500+ pictures - got 43 back
    23 photoshop projects - 3 early versions
    87 word docs - 2 retrieved
    .pub, .ppt, .xls, .txt - 300 megs and 4 files back
    6 websites totalling over 100 hours worth of work and 160 individual pages - got 2... freakin TWO!!!... pages back....

    I lost the freakin backups later the same day. I have never been so devastated by a crash..... ever.

    no virus, no electrical surge, no explaination..... just wiped clean.....

    I spent the last week in recovery, and I finally had to give up.....

    even the most cautious backup system can be brought to its knees within hours.

    the only think I didn't loose was on DVD, a month old.

    no audio, no video, no pictures. old versions of all my work.

    booted the computer..... one hard drive wiped.

    plugged in the backup external drive to recover..... partition gone.... I think magnetic field is the culprit, the drives check out fine, and I have been able to retrieve some data, just partition tables wiped clean.

    Wow, sorry to hear that man. That is a ton of lost work, and memories I'm guessing.

    I never do enough backing up. I think I'll throw some of the more important stuff back on CDs after hearing your story.

    sounds stupid, but you did try the windows restore, didn't you?
    Worth a try.. Because If a lawnmower has no gas, check it before you strip everything trying to find the problem (inside joke... some1 here will get it )

    It sucks to lose that much.. I lost 120gigs of stuff before when my HD crashed.. all the games and movies and pictures.. all of that was in october
    I just now got my new HD back and regaining the stuff
    New Server1 IP. Read the stickies!!

    This is how you check your STEAMID and register it.

    I feel your pain. I lost about that in October. It's not fun. The worst loss was all my pictures and photoshop projects Happy Downloading!!!

    That really does suck and I feel your pain. Last year about this time I lost a 250GB hdd full of music/movies (home & favorites from dvd-divx)/photos/various papers for college/and anything else that I wanted to keep *safe*. It was an external drive and one time I plugged it in and there was nothing there. At least I back up my music regularly and got most of that back, but everything else was gone.

    If it would help you at all, I would be happy to set up an FTP and let you have access to anything that I have that would help you get back on your feet. I know it won't help with your websites, but as far as everything else it may?
