You're right. The fade is the one exception to what I said, and I'm sorry to have to admit that. Really, really ... sorry. The fade is too often involved when imbalance rears its ugly head.

However, the marines on our server are too often.. well.. TOO DUMB (hey now.. myself included). The fade's strength (beyond whatever flawed hitboxes remain) lies in HIS control of the tactical fight-or-flight decision. If the marines can effectively take control of that decision (by blocking his exit), even the most talented fade will fall.

Marines on the TG NS server have a LOT to learn when it comes to blocking. Yes, the fade can dominate, but we have a lot of improvement left in us when it comes to countering that. It's hard to find the fade (the class or the player) at fault for being so dominant when the marines opposing him make so many mistakes in doing so.

For those clueless:
The Fade is an alien lifeform, stands as tall as a marine (of the five lifeforms, three are smaller, one larger; a fade is equal in size), has big ol' swiping claws and possesses no small amount of alacrity.

I'll agree that a good fade can turn the tide of a game, but a fade is physically incapable of being everywhere at once (though he can get many places quickly). In a game like NS where the whole map matters, this is an important consideration.

You should come back. I pride myself in setting up the rines under my command to either force the fade to meet on our terms and (hopefully) die, or remove his ability to determine the fate of the game.

You guys also left out: NS lacks the randomness of CS. Rounds do a set amount of damage, there is no hit detection, so there's no BS headshots or other crap. It's pure skill and teamwork.

CS is fun for me because it let's me perform my most entertaining role: Support. I don't pride myself on massed fragging or ultimate sniper skills. I pride myself on backing my teammates up with grenades or a meat body. In DC, I was the chopper pilot. In UT, I was the guy lobbing Alt-fire rockets around. In TFC, I was the Engineer.

NS allows for some support role, but you can't afford to really specialize in NS. We may need you to Fade, Onos, Gorge, command, draw fire, anything.

Specialization is for insects and CS players.

You can upgrade to the silver HL2 package from the bronze for the low low price of $10 and I am pretty sure that will get you access to HL1 and all its mods.

Apo even had an Amazon storefront for a while; perhaps if it's still active, you could buy the game AND support TG!
