In light of some recent posts in this thread, I'd like to add another book that I enjoy now that I'm out of school. In fact, this book was assigned to me in school every year between the 5th grade and my senior year in HS, and I hated it.

FAHRENHEIT 451 goes into what this world could be like if people didn't still read books...

The system was simple. Everyone understood it. Books were for burning ... along with the houses in which they were hidden.

Guy Montag enjoyed his job. He had been a fireman for ten years, and he had never questioned the pleasure of the midnight runs nor the joy of watching pages consumed by flames... never questioned anything until he met a seventeen-year-old girl who told him of a past when people were not afraid.

Then he met a professor who told him of a future in which people could think... and Guy Montag suddenly realized what he had to do!

Don't you just love how these bookstores give away gorgeous coffee table books like that? That's always the first section I check: the bargain oversize hardcovers.

That's funny. Guy Montag was the name of the hero Firebat in Starcraft.

Thanks for the recommendation, cingular. Will definitely be checking that one out.

I have the origional 196x movie of F451 somewhere..... the book was very interesting if not a tad on the "ok....where are you going" side... kinda wandered for a few pages here and there, just ramblings with the plot in the background.......but it never lasted too long and seemed to find its way back nicely......

There I saw no less than 2 OTHER Foundation books. I opened one up to check out the publication list for Asimov and it said there were SIX Foundation books. I searched for the one they listed first, but no luck.
Ok the 3 you mention are in the correct order for the original trilogy written in the 50's. The others were written in the 80's and later after a long break from science fiction novels.

according to this site:
http://www.asimovonline.com/oldsite/insane_list.html

... _Forward the Foundation_ is a collection of related short-stories that takes place mostly before _Foundation_ with some overlap at the end. _Foundation's Edge_ and _Foundation & Earth_ take place after the original trilogy. Anything else titled Foundation was not written by Asimov so read your fine print on the author. I hate books titled

Asimov's Foundation

Oh yes. If I hadn't already blown $20+ on paperbacks, I'd have grabbed 2-3 more. You can find some of the BEST historical books in the bargain bin. :P

THANK YOU GEISHA! I had put down Foundation since I didn't know if I was truly reading the first book in the saga. Now I can pick it back up again.

Make sure you pick up any book written by Stephen E Ambrose. He was a great history writer until he passed away recently.

I've recently started re-reading The Dark Tower series ("The Gunslinger"; "The Drawing of the Three"; "Wastelands"; and Finally "Wizards and Glass") I do hope that King will finish this series though he's been quoted several times over the years that he fears it will be an unfinished work. He's predicted and 11 novel based story with the Dark Tower and is only on book five. He better get writting!

I am in the middle of the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan, current title is "A Crown of Swords".

I read anything and everything from author Clive Cussler. His Character Dirk Pitt and my childhood are forever linked.

Lastly, anything that college makes me read. I swear, whoever comes up with these curriculums should really be shot!

I like other other authors like Patricia Cornwell, James Bradley (Flags of our Fathers was remarkable -- truly gave me a greater respect for the Naval Corpsman and the Marine Corps/Navy Team!), Gary Jennings, Richard Wolters (primarly deals with dog training and the special attention the Labrador breed crave) and so on....
