I dunno. Perhaps I'd make my first 'holodeck' buy Virtual Girl V1.0

AI is one aspect that is behind the scenes that isn't noticed so much but takes up a lot of processing power.
I don't think you will see this kind of realism with a CRT or LCD. My point was there will have to be a leap in technology in order to get to this kind of realism. A new type of display will have to be introduced like the Virtual Retinal Display I mentioned earlier. This new technology will most definitely require more processing power than we have in current PC's, which is one reason they have not hit the retail market.

The problem with your 9x9 million resolution is that it implies you have full field of view. The average human has about a 200 degree horizontal field of view whereas your widescreen TV at 6 feet away will give you no better than 40 degrees. As I said CRT's and LCD's will not get us the realism you are describing.

And I'm not disagreeing that we don't have a lot of work to do in Computer Graphics. That's why I'm geting my Masters in it. My point was with current displays and CPU's we've just about done what we can. As Admiral Hopper once said "The speed of light can only travel so fast". There are only so many phosphor dots/transistors we can cram into a given space.

If it's displays your talking about then yes - that'd be great to have peripheral vision tv. I understand some games out there support multiple g/cards that allow more monitors to be set up for peripheral vision. A bit cumbersome (and expensive) but it's a start

I don't understand this or your posted comment on the article itself? I'm not saying anything about PC sales, just what PC's are now becomming capable of.

You base your comment on 1 store in your area. J.
no... i base my comments on the Game in romford (my local) the game in lakeside (x2) and 2 special reserve shops.

and my comment is ontopic...think about it, pcs are capable of alot...problem is no game developer wants to exploit that lately... HL2 and Doom3 maybe the first to do so, but how late are both of them? why are they late? beacuse they dont want to spend loads of money on the PC market.........
