02-17-2004, 11:22 PM #47Did the phpBB forums exhibit this same behavior for you? I can extend the session timeout but that apparently will also extend the amount of time users are listed as being online for once they finish browsing. I believe it is set to 15 minutes right now.

02-17-2004, 11:24 PM #48Almost none of the moderators are set up yet. I need to complete the proper access rights for that group (lots of new stuff added now!) and then I will be adding everyone in. Most likely sometime early tomorrow.

02-17-2004, 11:27 PM #49Nope, it didn't do it on the phpBB forums, if I left my browser open. At least not that fast... Of course if I closed my browser, it automatically marked everything as read...

02-17-2004, 11:29 PM #50Okay.. So it's purely the cookie and not anything to do with the session. I can work with that I think. I'll play around with it this evening and tomorrow and see if the problem goes away for you.

You're not going to like this, Apophis...
Now, my posts aren't marked as read when I read them.
I can read all the new posts, they mark themselves as read, I close my browser, then when I reopen my browser and check the forums, all the posts are marked as unread again.
edit: when I manually mark everything as read, they stay that way.Become a supporting member!

02-17-2004, 11:50 PM #53After a half an hour they should be marked as read! Opening and closing your browser won't have anything to do with it anymore. It's all just based on the timeout in that cookie now.

02-17-2004, 11:53 PM #54Works for me! All I have to do is remember to mark manually if I want to check on posts within any half hour time period. Cool. Thanks!

Server getting slow?
Within the last 15 minutes the load time for the website has increased dramatically for me. It takes about 20 seconds for the main TG page to load and about 35 seconds for the main forums page to load completely. My connection to other websites seems OK, but it still could be something in between us causing the slowdown. Thought you might want to check it out, though, just in case...
Edit: seems back to normal now. Weird...Last edited by CingularDuality; 02-18-2004 at 12:12 AM.

So far, it seems like this doesn't update read messages very quickly. I'll read something, browse around a couple minutes and come back and it will still show as unread. Is there something I can set that will mark it read once I've viewed it?

Two more small things (you guys are going to love me by the time I'm done poking and prodding you about these forums!).
1. Max message length for PM's is 1000? I just hit that length by quoting two short messages in my own message. Seems a little short.
2. When you send a PM a popup says, "Would you like to receive a reciept?" Your two options are Yes and Cancel. While it took a minor bit of deducing to figure out that cancel would still send my message, you might want to change that to No so a user doesnt think he has to hit yes for his message to get sent.

02-18-2004, 10:30 AM #60I'll fix the max message length. It should be a lot higher than 1000 charactes.. 100,000 I believe.
