Re: Announcing the Tactical OS Project
Heh, switched to gentoo, mostly because as awesome as arch is, the library is still a bit on the weaker side (at least compared to gentoos 10,000+ [literally] software catalogue).
Why not employ knoppix detection scripts, gentoo or arch init scripts to whichever backend you want. I think the four most important parts of a distro (besides support) is: 1) The package manager / program installation method 2) The installation scripts 3) The init scripts 4) The lack of bugs How about breaking up your goals for each subsystem, and trying to implement them one by one. I personally advocate livecd / installation scripts - dont know +---hardware support scripts - kanotix package manager +---emerge (with the binary option turned ON as default, except for interesting packages like wine etc). I really wanted to say pacman, but emerge has a binary install option (no compiling) and has such a more enourmous list of programs. init scripts +---- gentoo and rc-update is pretty simple to use, otherwise look into lunar linux those were good too unless you've found ones you like even more. kanotix's hardware detection as part of the livecd / installation scripts keep in mind this is written at 5 am, i have just passed hour 37 of continous consciousness. |

I vote that we wait until Apophis is changing the baby and we put TacOS on every TG server currently running windows. Terrorists win.

Re: Announcing the Tactical OS Project
I'm definately converting MY servers to it when it comes out.
Also, I've been working on some pretty hardcore walls for TacOS, which I'll post here in a few.
