Ah! I know who dies in the new book. However, I shall not spoil it for anyone else.

Re: Harry Potter

Heh, watched all the movies, but skipped on the books. Read alot of that type of stuff, and the HP books are just geared too much for kids for me to enjoy them (not saying they're kids books, but authors write differently based on their audience)

Re: Harry Potter

At the end of the series, my money is that Dumbledore dies because hes the only one Volde- (sorry) He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is scared of and I bet he gets more powerful, either that or this has been a dream for Harry all along and he is asleep for one night and none of this had ever happened...

Re: Harry Potter

It will be intersting to see the sales stats for this weekend.

They had a seemingly endless supply of books at our local "Chapters" bookstore, and out of every 10 customers in line waiting with me there were at least 8-9 that had the new HP book in hand.

THAT is the best thing about Harry Potter. Rowling has made reading "cool" again. Heck, I even stayed away from TG until I finished the book!

BTW, I don't think this one is quite as good as the last book, but it was certainly worth the $17 dollars for the read! Quite a few shocking turns in this one...

Yeah 10 million copies will be sold. HP and the Lord of The Rings film-triggered sales are far better than any government literacy programme.

HP is not for me, but I am glad people are reading. IMHO a better childrens' fantasy series is Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials Trilogy.

and for the younger ones you will never beat A. A. Milne.

I do believe the official first print run was 10.8 million copies. Which is an insane number, not to mention the largest individual first printing of any book, ever.

Re: Harry Potter

I'm currently on page 330. Haven't had to much time to finish it off. The one thing that surprised me is the amount of love relationships and crushes that exist between many of the characters. It's like reading a novel about passions.

Re: Harry Potter

I finished the book 16 hours after I got it, reading 12 of those. I fell asleep at 6 AM.

It starts out fine, like the other books. But what creeps up is that i gets exponentially better throughout. It completely sets up loads of stuff until the very end, and starts releasing it in bursts. Some truly well done twists and shockers. It just gets better and better at such a fast rate.

A truly wonderful book, and anyone who calls it kiddy is just... childish. Anyone who doesn't read Harry Potter because it's "kiddy" sounds like some insecure preteen trying to act macho. Its the same as someone refusing to play Pikmin or Windwaker because they are "kiddy".

Anyway, I am serious when I say this: for the movie, Christian Bale should play Tom Riddle.

And the movies are getting worse. Its like the third one was a half assed attempt to rip off the 30 second bunny spoof of Alien.

Re: Harry Potter

I picked it up today, thankfully. I'm really excited to get into this one.

As for the movies, I too liked the 3rd one the most thus far. It wasn't campy, it was genuinely creepy at points, and really had a more mature feel to it, in my opinion. I am always impressed with their casting job- the whole Weasley family is right on the money, not to mention Hagrid and finally seeing Sirius Black in the flesh. Snape is another excellent fit.

The third film was made by someone who clearly hadn't read the book, and was therefore, typical hollywood crap

Are you smoking illegal drugs????? The third one was absolutely the best. It followed the book to a T and was not afraid to get into the darker situations, unlike the first two...

No illegal drugs in my house. Ever.

The third film was nothing like the book. They skipped bits, changed bits, until it was nothing like the book. And the werewolf was the same basic computer model they used for the troll in the first film.

In fact this film was nearly as faithful to the book as starship troopers was.

I think it's a rather good analogy actually. They took the names, and a few other bits, and knocked up a lame excuse for a film.

They couldn't even get the right people in the classes, skipped at least one quidittch match, had his aunt float off into the night when the book clearly says she floated up to the ceiling. The knight bus was a joke, the whole scene with fudge barely was barely recognisable. I got more

Oh and they completely messed the set up too. Someone probably forgot to get the owner of the castle to agree to all 7 films being made there.
